This March 12, 1967 episode of the CBS television program "The 21st Century" is hosted by newsman Walter Cronkite giving us his view of what the future holds for mankind in education and technology. It is amazing how close he is on many things. One that strikes me as very timely is the clip on the automated restaurant. This is happening now with some fast food restaurants to some degree because of economics. The Expo 67, Montréal Canada Habitat 67 is featured as an example of where most of us should be living right now and the thirty hour work week and month long vacation he predicted was a real flop though.

They all would be shaking their heads if they know that almost everything they predicted for technology is just a small pocket size cell phone today.

That’s interesting I don’t understand why. It’s actually a really good film though. I hope you find something you like. There are well over 1000 films on this channel.

30-hour workweek and one-month vacation every year. You missed that one Walter! Inflatable furniture did catch on in college dorms but nowhere else. Still, the big screen in 3-D with high-def stereo did pan out.

He missed the one about communism in the White House too.

I remember this show. They did a segment on an insulating material. Does anybody else remember that stuff? I seemed to recall that they said it was a layer of foil then paper then foil and so on. I wonder if it ever went into production?

It was a fake. I tried to find out who made this insulation and how it worked, way back then. The little chick wasn't in the container, except to show it put inside and then let out, again. Similar fakery was done at the Seattle World's Fair, when a washing machine was supposed to clean dirty clothes with sound waves, but the dirty clothing was removed through a back door and a clean set of clothes was put inside. Fake science!

@@Resologist Fake news was prevalent 50 years ago? I thought it was just a new thing. Back then, we all trusted Walter Cronkite.
