This FJ40 brings back more of the early Land Cruiser style and features subtle modern updates that reveal themselves in unexpected ways.
Classic Beginnings
The FJ40 is one of the most popular Land Cruiser models of all time, with countless options and configurations, which gave us lots of possibilities to work with. This particular project began with an authentic 1967 FJ40 hardtop with a flip-down rear hatch with small double doors. We perfected and repainted this unique body in Cloudmist Grey (a custom color) and outfitted this ride with features that are reminiscent of early FJ40’s - features like the retro side mirrors, rounded front grille and side markers, and the gorgeous chrome fin that adorns the hood.
A Powertrain Powerplay
The FJ Company Sport is perfect for those seeking that classic Land Cruiser look, with modern refinement and a more powerful engine. For this build, we swapped in a Toyota 1FZ engine, a 24-valve straight six upgraded with programmable fuel injection, and mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Old Man Emu leaf springs smooth out the ride, while our Advanced Power Steering system and front disc brakes give you confidence in a variety of driving conditions.
Timeless Elegance
Look inside, and you’ll find a classic cabin that stays true to the original design of the earliest FJ40s with discreet modern amenities. For seating, you’ll find the classic 60/40 split bench up front and jump seats in the back - both trimmed in custom black leather. This FJ40 features two JL Audio speakers in the custom kick panels and a FUSION receiver hidden within the glovebox, all in an effort to retain the cabin’s classic look. The retro knobs that have been part of the Land Cruiser’s DNA for decades, now support modern functionality. Control everything from your headlights to the Vintage Air climate control system with a simple pull or twist.

Wow this brings back some great memories for me I had a j40 and completely strip her down and rebuild her even took away those silly back doors and put 2 door with the left being just a little wider to take the spare wheel I put a 454 hp big block chev with steel bellhousing and a 5 speed gearbox put power steering, disc brakes with levers on the back brakes for getting round those sharp hills 825tyres man she was a Beautiful vehicle when I Finnsh keep her for 16 years before I had to sell her I did not spare anything did the whole lot even the Diffs with locking diffs this was the big difference in getting up those steep hill we have here in New Zealand oh if only I could have my time again

My first of about 16 four wheelers to date, a '67 FJ 40 ( also had a '77 later on ), bought it in 1982 for $750.00, rebuilt it to stock specs. ( except I installed bucket seats that I got from a Toyota car at the junk yard) I used to say the front end to the A pillar was built like a tank but from there on back it was made of recycled tuna fish cans. God I miss it! looked in Hemmings a few years back and couldn't find one that was barley rolling for less than $30.000.00. Back then parts were affordable because it was basically a reverse engineered Chevy.
