My first semester at Purdue! It was actually #1 vs #1 as one poll had Purdue #1 and ND #2, and the other poll had it the other way around. But the good guys won and Leroy played both ways and became a legend.

I always like it when you guys beat Notre Dame or upset anyone besides Michigan. Purdue football is always intriguing because no matter the situation you can't take the Boilers lightly. Illinois can be unpredictable too.

Good stuff, and really good quality considering it's 1968

I went to see Purdue at N.D. in 72 , I was a 14 year old kid and I made the mistake of wearing a Purdue hat, boy did I catch it. we were in enemy territory. Ah the good ole days.

Some clear differences with today's game: Natural grass and afternoon matchup for #1 and #2. Leroy Keyes rushed a dozen times for 2 TDs, passed for another and had a half dozen tackles. Unheard of today. No soccer style kicking and you can see why it's changed. No shotgun formations. Yet despite all these differences, the rush /pass ratios and scoring hasn't changed much.

Several legendary players in this game.

I remember when Notre Dame came to Oklahoma in 1966. when Ara was the coach and I just remembered a tackle named Lynch, and the reason I remember him is because he lined up on defense at an angle and just drove into the whole side of the line. OU has only beat them twice in 12 games I think. The only team to have a record like that against Oklahoma except Texas but that’s a hundred games lol.

Joe Theisman was on the Notre Dame punt return team. Amazing.

Ara should have put the back up QB in for Hanratty, that #7 guy.
@ronavena3 жыл бұрын
Who would that #7 guy be? Theismann?
@Mr.56Goldtop3 жыл бұрын
@@ronavena Yes, a very Young Joe Theismann, only a sophomore. But he played well for often injured Terry Hanratty later on. I think Notre Dame must have kept a hospital bed in their locker room Hanratty was hurt so much.

I’m wondering when they moved the goal posts to the end line. At least twice the announcer made mention to add ten yards on the kick.

During the 1960s the Purdue-ND rivalry was highly intense with the Boilermakers winning a few of those games over the higher ranked Irish.

Purdue beat ND regularly in the 60’s.

And in this instance Purdue was *not* ranked behind #2 Notre Dame

Parseghian had two great teams in 1966 and 1973. This team was right below that..

The defense just wasn't there yet, especially early in the season. They were much stronger by the end of the season, especially the 21-21 tie at Southern Cal (who entered the game 9-0 and No. 1 in UPI).

1964, 1969 and 1970 were better than this team as well.

Chris Schenkel terrible? Say it isn't so.Bowling fans would disagree
@ericc2083 Жыл бұрын
Schenkel was an idiot. A 17-yard halfback pass was a "bomb by Lah-roy Keys." NOBODY ever called him "Lah-roy" before or after this game. He was really good on the bowling shows though.
