This was the original modern Cowboy Cadillac used on the ranches in Texas and such like places (of which there are none). Then it was the Jeep Wagoneer ( the large frame... in the days of the old Gladiator). GM was watching all of this and came out with the high line Suburban, late to the dance of course (like they were with the '67 Camaro). Thanks for this presentation. Now my wife wants one.

I turned 16 in '71. This was the family vehicle I couldn't use until I mowed the lawn and cleaned the windows in the house. Ours was a '66 my dad bought in '68. I really liked it except for a few small details. By all accounts and reviews, they were a good vehicle. We got that 1 in 10,000 LEMON! Transmission problems, electrical issues, 5 or 6 mpg around town and went through front tires like shit through a goose. Other than that, it handled nicely, and the old 304 was a very decent engine......when the damn thing actually worked! Everybody else I ever talked to that had one reported that they were a good reliable vehicle. We just ended up with that 1 bad apple.

Fine overall presentation of a fine vehicle. I recall a test back in the September 1971 Motor Trend issue comparing the Travelall to the Chevrolet Suburban and the Jeep Wagoneer. The International was the winner. The Wagoneer came in a distant third based on comfort issues... There were not many tests of these vehicles in the 1960s but there was one in February 1962 issue of Popular mechanics. It was a rather short article, but they were impressed with the usefulness and comfort of the standard (not 4x4) model. It was neat that they were available with overdrive back then as well and lots of heavy duty or otherwise useful features like dual fuel tanks and heavy duty radiators, springs, shocks, etc.

What about having Line-X bed-liner material sprayed inside the whole cowl side to side since it has a removable cover? of course the drains would have to be plugged before the spray. could be an alternative to welding patch metal.

Yeah something like that might work, but the problem is Bedliner does not stick to surface rust. It wouldn’t be to hard to fix at the end of the day.
