I heard the story. He said that he told the lawyer to work all night if needed be but to trademark the name whatever it took. Made such to launch the car rather quickly too just to undercut GM. Attaboy.

Highly underrated engine and one of the sexiest cars of the muscle car era. I with you Kevin I would have driven the wheels of this one it would have been a keeper though and in black. Part of the reason I've kept my RX-7 was because I didn't want to be like my parents and sell off a rare performance car from my youth. My mother sold a 440 six pack Charger when I was four and according to my parents it devastated me. I vaguely remember it, oddly recall my uncle wanting to race though.

Beautiful car ! Seen a green 68 convertible that had all kinds of options . It even had power windows . When I think of a Shelby I always thought race car but as mentioned in 68 there were a lot of changes . The convertible I looked at was more of a luxury edition Shelby . Love the videos , keep 'em coming . One of my Friday night highlights !

beautiful car. the '68 was nice but the last real Shelby was the '67...the '68 was just an appearance package, with mechanical parts you could get on any Mustang...a GT with the CJ and competition suspension is the same car under the skin. Still, the Shelby's of '68 were real lookers. Tanzania???

I forgot about that, I had a friend with a 69 Cobra jet mach 1 and it took us 20 yr old kids a good while lets say to swap them , if only they had cheap electronic ignition back then because if its one thing they need its a strong spark., I took care of a boat with twin 427's and when I put in a crane ignition box the motors were literally transformed into smooth beasts, they'd idle at 400 rpm in gear swinging some good sized props, before that they were a pain to start and idle.

68 Shelby's are deluxe mustangs, not Shelby's, there are no "non ford" modified parts, no suspension modification, and the 428 CJ is a Ford motor offered in other Ford cars. 67 was the last Shelby...that 428 PI you dismissed was modified by Shelby with a custom dual quad aluminum manifold sporting twin 600 cfm holly carbs, rated at 355 horses and the same low balling of numbers common in the day....the 68 can only be celebrated as the first Ford Shelby, a Shelby in name only....

Nice but I'm pretty sure the KR"s came with hub caps and a steering wheel that had a solid wood grain horn pad with a squarish emblem in the center that said SHELBY COBRA with a cobra snake in the middle, plus a horn ring in the bottom half of the wheel. It would've been nice if he said that Ford stole the KR badge form Chevy who was going to introduce the 69 KR Camaro, thus the reason for the mid year Shelby 500 KR.

May have been they were using up leftover ‘67 pieces. Car companies are well known for using up old stock and introducing new pieces as a running change.
