Looking good Chef, the underside of the top is great, I would carefully support the top laying flat. You might have to sand the top side all the way down but you have plenty of clear to work with so nothing to lose trying to save the clear you already have shot. You may have to remove some of the heavy curtain to speed the curing. All is not lost yet, You saved the wings with all the contours so you can save this also. Good luck, Frank
@cheftush

Hi frank, I’ve pretty much decided just to sand it down and re base and clear. I think it will be easier and will be better in the end as well.

Hi Chef, love the carbs return linkage, not sure about the bullet gear knob. Sorry to see the curtains on the gloss coat but makes me feel better about my efforts when the Chef has these issues too.
@cheftush

Yes, I kind of like the matching knob and wheel combo, the problem is that knob feels very cheap and actually already needs repair as the threaded insert is loose in the wooden inside….the billet one is quite solid and has a good feel…

Good progress and we surely join you in our appreciation for Elin's help. On the wiper motor - I also have problems with understanding the wiring for the park function. The wiring diagram and even the Bentley doesn't seem to fully explain how it works. So, if you can figure it out we sure will appreciate you showing the fix in the video. THANK YOU!

Looking good. Quick tip on ABS plastic. You can actually weld it with a soldering iron. If you have some scrap you can use it like filler rod when Tig welding. How well does the JB weld work? Looks good enough.
@cheftush
@cheftush 3 жыл бұрын
We didn’t show it as we were not sure that is was going to work, but in the end, after the JB weld failed( it peeled off) we end up plastic welding it with the careful use of a propane torch and plastic zip ties for filler rod. Worked fantastic. I wish we’d filmed it!

Hi Dave, sorry to hear about your shoulder injury, you didn’t mention how you injured it but hopefully it’s not your rotator cuff. Nevertheless the car is coming along beautifully, although it was out of character for you to hang the roof vertically to spray it, but I guess we all live and learn! Take a break and nurse that shoulder my good friend, there’s always another day.

Hi Phil, I fell in the garage a few weeks ago…sounds pretty innocuous, but I tipped over backwards off a milk crate that I was sitting on in front of the trailer…there’s a large ledge from the garage floor down the the driveway…I pushed back on the milk crate over the edge and the crate tipped back and me with it…not only did I fall, I hit the trailer and came down on my right side and arm…..silly really, but it’s really set me back. The problem is, I’m not good at doing nothing….it doesn’t seem to be getting any worse but it’s not getting any better. I really just need to stop for a week or two I think.

Now that the inside of the top is painted and done the outside will come out better once sanded because you can shoot it lying flat across the sawhorses, less chance of running the clear.
@cheftush
@cheftush 3 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly, it will be much easier to spray it flat. In hind site, I should have done this from the begining but I was trying to kill two birds with one stone...If I had done the 1 side only, i would have had to have waited three days for the clear to harden enough for me to flip it and paint the other side....
@botycobra
@botycobra 3 жыл бұрын
Try the bondo trick...there is nothing to lose and it might work.
@cheftush
@cheftush 3 жыл бұрын
I think it will be just easier to sand the whole panel down. I’ve got enough base to re shoot it and more clear ( not going to use the cheap stuff this time) and will shoot the panel flat.
@jaydegrenade

Once the clearcoat has hardened it will have shrunk a little bit too so with some careful sanding you may get away with just re doing the clearcoat and as the underside is okay at least you can lay it flat when you respray to the top. That being said it's a real bummer when you get a paint run like that I've done myself a few times over the years for exactly the same reason I think you called it "user error" that made me chuckle as I tend to use more choice words when I know it was my own fault ha ha. You make a very good point about working with an injury, when you're not enjoying it as hard as it is you have to STOP! Look after yourself mate.
@cheftush
@cheftush 3 жыл бұрын
I think in this case since the run is so bad, Id be better off just to sand it back down and re base and clear...

Sorry about the clearcoat run....after you sand it down and are ready to paint, lay it down flat so the topside is up. Then the odds of a run should be really low. It will look great! Is the top the same blue color or gray? And take of that shoulder! My right shoulder is not great but with PT and exercises, it's livable.

Chef, good to see you back at it. I have a question that’s a little off topic. I have a 62 TR4 and just acquired a 67 TR4A irs. The Tr 4 body is in a lot better shape than the TR4A irs body. Are the body tubs the same on both cars? Can I swap the bodies? Thanks for your response.
@cheftush

Oh that is a good question Steve....Ill try and research it a bit. I know that the frames would be different with the IRS obviously but I think the body pick up points would be the same.
