the fact that you can understand english, earn a salary working in english, then post your opinions in chinese here shows the success of bilingual education in singapore. you are proof of the effectiveness of the bilingual policy. if you did not in fact study mandarin, how do you expect to argue here in dialects?

Hello, in the 60s, those were just wishes of minority speakers. Where to get talent to even teach Thai, Japanese, German to name a few. But in the 70s, students could choose a 3rd language to learn in schools though. Of course one must hv the capacity left to do so with already so many subjects to cope

@@jeny7177 》》》if you did not in fact study mandarin, how do you expect to argue here in dialects? I was forced to attend a Chinese school. If everyone had read English back then, I guess we wouldn’t need to debate in Chinese because everyone already speaks English. Do you think Lee Kuan Yew can debate in Chinese? Do you know how old Lee Kuan Yew was before he learned Chinese? 32 years old. If our second language was Malay or Tamil, we would probably have better communication as a nation.

Using English as the main language was and still is brilliant. Some other countries, for the sake of pride, use some other useless non progressive language with poor results. Using Malay as a national language is brilliant too. But that does not mean it will be the main medium. Like orchid is Singapore's national flower does not mean that everyone should plant orchid.
