the broadcast is music to my ears with announcers Lindsey, Murphy and Kiner masters of their craft... all though I was only 10 years old at the time and living in Jersey I was a huge Met fan and clearly recall the players the pitching rotation and the coaching staff... what an amazing year that was lead by manager Gil Hodges...fast forward fifty years now living in Florida and I still hear the cries of " Lets go Mets"... you gotta believe....thanks for the memories.

Best ever. Such a terrific post, for true 69 Mets fans. This was a real "muscle" win that year. So many things are revealed- that Agee had been dusted the day before and homered on next pitch, that his blast here off Hands was hit so hard he thought it would hit the wall and missed first; had to go back and touch it, that Hands dusted Koos on his last at bat, the dual standing O for Koos and Agee... and on and on. A real gem of a game... ps the black cat appeared the following night.

I became an announcer because of Bob Murphy! When the Mets swept the Cubs in this brief 2 game set, I knew they were going to win it all! I started the 6th grade at PS 253 in the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn that day! I watch this game on Channel 9 that night! Boy, was I pissed when Bill Hands low bridged Agee in the first inning! Glad that Tommie got even! Sad though they both have since passed away! I will never ever forget 1969!

@@graciemaemarie11jones16 , I respectfully disagree! The man spent 50 years broadcasting Major League Baseball and he would not have lasted that long if he wasn’t any good! You’re talking about a broadcaster who’s in the Hall of Fame but you’re entitled to your opinion and I will leave it at that!

I am a Cards fan who bought the Baseball strat-o-matic game seeing it being played by a buddy my first year in college. I have kept it and still have all the 1960s contenders teams and what then were some of their oldtimer teams from the 1920 - 1950s offered by the game. I bought a few more teams unilt the Cards world series winning year of 1982. When I play the 1969 Mets and Cubs in ths very realistc baseball game the Mets usually win a 3 game series. The Mets pitching with Seaver and Koosman was outstnading with a very good bullpen. Just enough hitting. These Classic baseball games are great.

At 5:30 -- Shea Stadium PA announcer Jack Lightcap asking fans to stand for organist Jane Jarvis's rendition of The Star Spangled Banner. In this version, Jane uses an arpeggio one chord intro instead of her usual four or five chord intro. It's a damn shame we don't have classy ballpark organists like Jane Jarvis anymore.

Network and cable MLB $$ force the old ways down to A-ball, if even that. Jane Jarvis eventually evoked Bob Ralston and champagne music making... and time marches on.

@schwei564 жыл бұрын
Analog audio was like that: Over multiple playback and rewind, the analog medium of audio tape was subject to physical stretching, which would slow down the content slightly (plus the possible differences in the actual machines providing the playback) . It is less apparent as the game progresses.

Koosman only 12-9 going into this game. Must of had a lot of hard luck losses and lack of run support. Tom.Seaver was waiting for his start the next day, he was already 20-7 on his way to 25 wins.
