Hurricane Camille blasted the U.S. Gulf Coast with 24 foot storm surge and Category 5 winds, but a lot of Camille’s fatalities and damage was caused when it become a Low Depression and brought huge amounts of rainfall to West Virginia, causing a lot of flooding which the houses and structures at the time not being suitable for handling that much rain.

One of two particularly infamous cases of a Modoki El Nino not only not suppressing Atlantic activity, but in fact, enhanced it. Fun fact: Originally the 'C' storm this season was going to be named 'Carol.' But at some point shortly after the season began, it was changed to 'Camille.'
