My dad had a 1970 c10, it was geared like your truck. Watching you drive it reminds me of watching my dad drive his truck when I was a kid. I miss my dad a lot.

I learned to drive my dads 69 when I was 10 back in 1989 . It was a straight 6 with a3 speed on the wheel. Same colour as yours I love those trucks. You lucky to have a nice one. Yours must be original paint because it looks exactly same colour the one the old man had

I got to “Solo” in a truck like this at 8 years old. Dad had me driving since I could stand on the seat and steer. As soon as I could push the clutch with my feet he would let me drive to the farm dump. That very special day we loaded up the trash and he said what are you waiting for? I said for you to get in, He said you know what your doing right, go by yourself. Miss you dad!

My all time favorite body style. I had a 69 and 70 GMC 1/2 tons back in the day. Both were equipped with 350 gas, full power and AC. Wish I'd kept them. Only issue I had was the fact that they drank gas like it was going out of style! Up graded to a F250 diesel, drank 1/3 the fuel and pulled like all get out. Still have that one. I drove a 71 C-60 for work, 366 5+2 trans. I put close to 100-K miles on it the time I drove it, didn't really use muck more gas than the pick up, later learned that the torque converters used by GM were crap and the cause of excessive slippage that wasted gas.

Doesn't matter what the gear ratio, truck was meant to take off in 2nd gear. Same transmission, in 1973, was relabeled L-1-2-3. So some people could drive it correctly.

His truck he can use low if He wants. Low is great for getting started on hills, or slowly crawling in traffic. Wanna have some real fun? put your gear drive Np 205 transfer case in low and the 465 in low, get crawling and shift the first 4 gears. Catch high with the transfer case, & 2nd gear with the 465 last gear is 3rd.
@andrewweitzel7352
@andrewweitzel7352 Жыл бұрын
Using 1st gear is completely normal and mandatory with higher axle ratios. Not needed with lower axle ratios. Add in oversized tires and it gets worse. I start in 1st with my '71 K10 with 3.07's and 31's because I don't like slipping the clutch. My '85 K30 with 4.56's I can about take off in 3rd. BTW, medium duty trucks retained the 1,2,3,4 knob until the end in the late 80's.

3.07 rear gears? I have 4.11 gears in my 65 GMC with the 305 V6 and SM420 and 2nd gear gets you about 10 miles per hour at most haha. I shift 3rd to 4th at around 25 miles per hour. Most driving is done in 4th gear. I start off in 2nd, but with gears like you have its better for the clutch to start in 1st haha

The best way to drive the sm465 is to start in 2nd (which is actually first) otherwise you won't get anywhere at a reasonable pace
@andrewweitzel7352
@andrewweitzel7352 Жыл бұрын
No, 1st is first. The knob says 1,2,3,4. GM added the L,1,2,3 knob in '73....same trans, same 4 forward gears. As he mentioned its got taller gears, 3.54 most likely with a Dana 60 rear, so using 1st to take off is normal, as it is with 3.07 gears in a C or K10. When you have 4.56's, 1st isn't really necessary then in normal conditions.

It's a torque monster that's why the gears are long, and it needs headers that you can get for cheap online, you know summit or somebody, got to sound good stock is shit on these, easy bump on power just saying dude...cool truck had a 72 basic badass single cab long bed 4x4. Great truck just a little thirsty LOL 👍

Never liked headers on a truck, to hard to get at the spark plugs. Headers are great on a Camaro. Small tube headers like Headman are the best on a small block, easy to get at spark plugs and the spark plug boots don't burn unlike the big tube generic Summit headers where the spark plug boots are to close to the header.

Lol. Odd how some people never seen one of those. Drove a 71 f100 with 3 on the column. Easy to drive once you take a few seconds to figure out the concept. The H pattern is just sideways and on the steering column. Reverse towards you and up. 1st down and towards you. 2nd forward and up. 3rd down and forward. 👍
