The best muscle car ever. Mine was a 70, 383 but an amazing, fun car. The 'feeling' that exudes frk these cars are unmatchable. If i had a time machine, I would be waiting at the end of the assembly line to claim one like i saw brand new in the show room of Raceway Plymouth in Islington Ontario Canada in 1970. 4 speed pistol grip, black interior, Hemi Orange in colour. Total mystique !!

Roadrunners are one of my favorite cars and I've been kicking myself ever since I bought one in 1998 for $1500 it was a 1969 383, 4 speed and barely had any options but I loved that cat despite the rusty quarters and floor was so rusty I could see the pavement driving down the road but I let someone talk me out of it because he was going to restore it right away. I would have had it restored by now but I was thinking I would buy another and now the prices have skyrocketed and I cant afford one and it kills me.

Same here, I passed on one in 1997. 1970 Roadrunner 383 4spd for $700.00. My cousins friend was selling it.Had rust and rot for being this year in Massachusetts but ran great.These were the years all Road runners gto 442 GS chevelles, mustangs dried up .I think of the deals i passed up thru the years and the cars i sold, now they are untouchable and or fully restored.

I'm a Mopar guy first and the 69 1/2 Roadrunner/Super Bee A12 440/6 is maybe my favorite muscle car ever made. It's between an A12, a 66 Plymouth Belvedere/Dodge Coronet 426 Hemi, and a 68 Charger R/T. B-Body Mopar's were always my favorite muscle cars. I love Cuda's/Challenger R/T's and 340 Dart's, Demon's, and Duster's too. The 70 AAR Cuda and Challenger T/A are my favorite pony cars ever made but those pony cars and compacts are all a bit too small and cramped for my liking. Always preferred mid to full size cars

NOT A 440SIX PACK. Get it right. Dodge had six packs, Plymouth had six barrels. Even says it on the hood. And you're mistaken about the $$$ chrysler licensed the bird logo for $50,000, and spent $10,000 on the horn. I have a mopar library in my bedroom. Read mighty mopars by Anthony young
@tracyerik
@tracyerik 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, for Pete sake.... it says six barrel on the hood. I guess everything with three two barrels are now six packs. The idea was in 67, the car came out in 68, the A12 was a mid year option in 69 like the Super bee's. Some famous wrestler bought a 70 six barrel Superbird, and was saying "you run off the back carb, and then put it to the floor two open up the other two." He didn't even know you run on the center one until you step down and open up the back and front one. There's a ton of books out there on this stuff.

Great job! You are correct and appear very knowledgeable! Made this mopar lover proud! A common misconception for sure,people think it's the same but it's not. One car used edlebrock carbs and the other used Holly carbs. Lots of ignorant folk think carburetors are just carburetors but that isn't the case,especially with Plymouth and Dodge. The carbs on the Plymouths are called barrels because of the design they are more rounded on the edges than the rectangular or squarish style carbs on dodges, hence the name six pack. You can argue that it's just a carb and it's no big deal and it's the same but it isn't the same any more than a hemi is the same as a regular or normal engine. They're both engines,yeah....but they aren't the same any more than a ford engine is to a Chevrolet or a Subaru engine for example and the performance is even different.

I'm looking for my dad's old 69 roadrunner 383 magnum, automatic, solid blue on blue bench seat, power brakes, non A/C car. It was a special order car that the guy never picked up. So my dad bought it. It was sold at the end of the year in 1969 at a dealership in Orange TX.

My dad had a 69 Roadrunner too. 383 auto but his was orange with the black hood with the orange stripe down the middle. He says to this day it's his favorite car that he ever owned...and he's owned a few very nice cars. He had a 68 1/2 Mustang 428 CJ and a 69 Fairlane Cobra 428 CJ...both 4 speeds. But he says the Roadrunner was faster than either one of those Ford's

I had a red 68 GTX that I blew up the big 440 HP in it and it didn't take me but a few weeks and I blew it up with the same girlfriend that I blew up my GTO with except we'd been broke up and hadn't seen each other in a year and she showed up while I was doing some little things to it so we took a ride. At least there wasn't chunks of metal in the oil pan like it was when we blew up the GTO. I heard a slight ticking which started getting louder and I turned it off and coasted down on the shoulder. Spun bearings. That was my trademark I guess. She looked at me and said she must be bad luck. She was definitely dangerous.😵

Sorry Peter but you're confused on some of your facts. First of all, Robert Anderson who was named vice-president in charge of the Chrysler-Plymouth sales division contacted Brock Yates, writer for Car & Driver to get some advice on how to attract the younger buyers. The Plymouth GTX had much lower sales figures than its competitor the Pontiac GTO. The GTO in 1967 sold about 81,000 units to the GTX which sold about 12,000 units. They knew that they needed to do something to close that market. Thus the Road Runner was born. Secondly, your statement on Plymouth spending $50,000 for the horn development is mixed up. After negotiations with Warner Bros. who owned the rights on the Road Runner cartoon character was reached, the $50,000 (best recollection) was spent to be able to use the cartoon character under certain guidelines spelled out by WB. Chrysler had 3 main horn suppliers, one was Sparton Horn who told them that they had a military horn that sounded much like the "Beep Beep" sound that they were looking for. Jack Smith, Plymouth's manager of mid-size product planning group was instrumental in bringing the name and product development for the Road Runner all within a product price range of under $3,000 dollars. The rest is history. Hope this helps.

That's one of the things so great about this car. They spent 50k? just to get the sound and character from Warner Brothers and the car itself only costed about $3000. That is effort

Owned one of each before the age of 20 Had family in law enforcement driving Bs and Cs with 440HP power. Yes them big Mopars handled/drove out nice. Far superior to big gm and most Fords.
