1970 & 1978 Pontiac Trans Am Exhaust Comparison

Comparison of exhaust note between a 1970 T/A & 1978 Y-82 T/A.
1970 has Ram Air IV Manifolds with 2.5 inch opening going into a pypes 2.5" down pipe into a Flow Master American Thunder Series exhaust mandrel bent with H-Pipe into Texas TA mufflers and 2.5 inch tailpipes. 1978 Ta has Dougs long tube headers with 1 7/8th inch primary into 3 inch collector with a Pypes 2.5 inch mandrel bent exhaust and x-pipe. Also has Texas TA mufflers.

I had a neighbor in like 72 that had a 70 T/A and a friend that had a 78 T/A in about 82. Both cars unmolested totally stock. There is no comparison whatsoever. The 70 T/A has them all beat.

The front from early 1970s T/As were definitely better but if I’m gonna have a car like that I want to be seen in it. So I’d rather have a 77’-81’ T/A with T tops. It’s basically the same body just the front isn’t as great.

Symphonic. Had a original 71455 HO G.O.A.T. which were a little roughed-in but seemed cammy as yur T/A. Well tuned machines

for me: the 1978 model with nearly original pontiac 400ci engine, the best option for torque and performance is 2 1/4" system with x-pipe and straigt trough mufflers

Do both cars have the same mufflers? How about compression ratios?

Both cars have the same mufflers (Texas TA Mufflers). Compression for the blue car is 9.9 black car is 9.5.

@@transambud6117 The horsepower of these cars are closer than you think. The '70 is 447HP and 9.9 compression. The '78 is 380hp and 9.45 compression.

Listen to the video named SNOWMAN. I had the x pipe changed to an H-pipe and the car sounds very different. The H-pipe relaesed the sound that was already there. No other changes were made.
