Your video was what I needed for my 45hp motor. My motor sat for 20 years. Lower unit was dry. New seals in the mail. Thanks for posting.

man that was great, You are the man. I recently purchased a 80 starcraft with a 75 horse Chrysler. the seller didn't tell me that the top spark was stripped out. Went to start it to leave from my fishing spot. It backfired so loud, and ran like crap on my way back to the docks. i knew it was running off of 2 cylinders.Took the cowl off an the plug was completely out of the head.it was a simple fix because it was easily diagnosed (helicoil it)... As for you I Applaud you GREAT WORK i am subscribing to your channel..if i have any questions i will definitely hit you up

I have a Chrysler 75 hp also. Have you changed your impeller? I have been told there is nothing to line up on the reassembly - just reconnect the shift rod. Have you done this to your outboard? Do you consider it easy to change the impeller? This will be my first time and I don't want to cause problems with shifting. It works fine now but I am worried I will not get it right. There are no youtubes on impeller changes to a 75hp that I can find.

Thanks for your video. That helped me a lot. I could not understand how to drop low end on my 85 HP Chrysler to replace impellar. All the details helped so great in depth video.

I recently rebuilt the lower unit on my 55hp as it was difficult to get into neutral, it has a similar lower end to your unit. I found when re-assembling, the easiest method was to put the gear shift rod into its hole first, insert its screw-in pin then raise the gearshift rod up (out of the housing). Next place the yoke on the end of the gear assembly and as you insert the gear assembly into the housing the yoke will naturally pull the gearshift rod down as its pivot points match to the slots in the gearshift linkage.

Found a Chrysler 55 just about a year ago; a 'barn find' w/o the barn! Guy put a POS boat on Craig's for $100/bo; it had been left on his property. Well, it was just ten miles away so I swung by and took a look. Rare SHORT SHAFT 55 that was MINT under the cowl. All it needed was cleaning and gapping the points - everything else worked. Threw a Chrysler control box that I had in with a deal and flipped it for $600; just about easiest $5 Bills I ever made. Motor had pissah! compression and fired right up.

DUDE!!! I cant believe I found this video... Its the exact problem I have. The big problem I have is the vertical through bolt has rusted so bad internally that Im gonna have to do some damage to get it apart.. it has actually split the case. Wish me luck, Im gonna give it a try anyway.

At minute 4:28. You removed the screw. If I remove that screw accidentally do I need to take the whole thing apart to reinstall it correctly? Or can I just screw it back on and put new gear oil in?

Another easy way of installing the gear shift arm is by installing it in and then put the side pin through it, once it’s the correct position. You then place the GEAR SHIFT ARM PIN W/YOKE on the PROPELLER SHAFT and push it in to the gear housing. Line them up and boom you are in business. A lot faster and very easy.
@rootvalley2 Жыл бұрын
I find that to be way harder way to do it, sometimes you can get lucky but can’t rely on getting that pin in better to take off shift link from the top

I noticed that when reassembling that the linkage is adjusted with the jam nut as well. So before you rake the lower apart adjust that first.
@pygmywarrior32 жыл бұрын
@ 3:40 the ball bearing on the shaft should come out with the bearing cage (the part in his hand) so you can get a wrench on the nut instead of using the needle nose pliers to loosen it.

That shift linkage adjustment on mine is super tedious. Literally a quarter turn to much in one direction u either get easy shift into forward and bang reverse or the opposite bang into forward and easy into reverse. U gotta make tiny adjustments to get it right. I do it when im out on the water it freaks out my passengers lol

Here are my notes from doing this very thing today, partially cribbed from iboats. On the 1967 55-HP Chrysler, it’s in forward when the rod is down. If you tighten the linkage too much, you will have only reverse, or perhaps neutral and reverse. The flywheel turns clockwise (viewed from above) when the motor is running. So if you turn the flywheel clockwise, and it is in gear, you can look at the prop to determine whether it’s turning forward or reverse. When you make the adjustments below, it will go into neutral quite suddenly, with even just a quarter turn as you get to the proper setting. I had it too tight to start, which might be the best way to start. 1. Place the shifter into neutral. 2. See to it that the catch at the engine end of the cable is in the neutral is in the catch, or cog. (The cog engages with the throttle, so you can’t shift at high throttle.) 3. Rotate the prop in both directions. If you can't, or it "clicks" (or turns the flywheel), you will need to then adjust that long nut, lengthening or shortening it until the prop turns freely in both directions (without clicking or engaging the flywheel). Use the notes above to help decide whether you need to loosen or tighten. So I started too tight, and loosened it a quarter turn at a time, checking each quarter turn. Suddenly it clicked into neutral and would turn free. 4. Once you have that, tighten the lock nuts onto the long nut, and 5. Re-check the prop, to make sure nothing moved when you locked them down. The shift adjustment has to be pretty precise. Not a difficult adjustment, just a bit time consuming. * You wouldn't believe how much 1 turn of the nut on the shift makes in the adjustment. It took me 20 minutes of adjustment to get mine right.

Hello I watched your vidio and found it helpful.... my 35 Chrysler was stuck in forward. After disconnecting the upper linkage I removed the lower leg and still the linkage would not move up or down . So I took out the gears same as you , once the gears were out there was no brass yolk on the end , i found it . now the linkage moves freely. I figured out how to attach yolk to the linkage like you did BUT the clutch dog only moves back and forth 3/16 of an inch..... any ideas... thanks CHRIS

Any tips on how to remember how to reassemble correctly? Do you take pictures, have a parts diagram or just a good memory? I have a 75 hp Chrysler and am afraid to change the impeller due to lack of experience. I am told the bolts on the impeller cover are very difficult to remove. Yours seemed to come off very easily. I am also unsure how to align the shifting rod, water pipe and gear rod. Any tips on what to look for when looking up that lower unit assembly.

I don't even own a boat or outboard but love to learn stuff - you did a great video. Very informative. What did you say after you ran it the first time after fix - just before you re-adjusted it. How did you know to move it up/down.

you have to get it just right best to mark it before removal, there should be a fine adjustment at the linkage up top
