Just a small tip that I found works well. Paint that sits outside expanding and contracting is easier to clean if you use a steamer slightly to expand the paint then scrub it. It will help get those permanent type stuff from the moss and it will mostly come off. Good job with the detail

That's easy, they don't want to sell them because they are emotionally attached but regrettably that part of their life is over or it is not once again time. Then one of the married couple dies. The remaining partner has not the expertise to maintain the car but now they have an emotional attachment to the car whom the deceased owner loved so much. Then they die and the kids have no clue what has been left behind. There lives are on the treadmill of life. So the car sits and sits with all those memories trapped inside.

Betting there’s rot through the birdcage judging by condition of the rest of the car. Arguably not worth saving given the cost of repair unfortunately.
@jimw6991 Жыл бұрын
@Greg Cummings Not sure what you mean by bird cage. Although I appreciate the hard work by the detailer, I think all the effort on the exterior aside from cleaning is a total waste. Is anyone not going to notice huge paint chips on the hood, etc. Car needs to be stripped and repainted, given its value I would guess this is headed to paint shop soon so why waste effort on a finish that is going to be stripped? As far as engine, it would be interesting to see if with fluid changes and a tune up if car would move. An educated guess is brakes and steering likely not safe to drive, not to mention frame could be severely damaged by rust. That said I am guessing this cleaning added thousands to value of car as it is sitting, especially if it could be driven. Thanks for posting.

First off. Nice work on the Vette. Had to be bitter sweet seeing its before and after state knowing what 'could have been' had they taken just a little bit of care of it. Rescued a farm field stored Suburban (99) from WA. What a mess but, fortunately, nothing like this one. After removing carpet, treated the floor pan inside and out for rust finalizing with POR-15 which I used after addressing all the rust issues on the body and doors, replacing fenders etc. Spot paint until I was ready for an entire spray job. New Carpet as well. Sometimes you just have to say 'when.' Came out real nice until T-Boned by a red light runner....RIP

My neighbor almost has the same exact car except his is red with side pipes. But it is a big block with a four-speed. He is basically letting the car rot away and his driveway. People are always knocking on his door wanting to buy the car and he won't sell it. And 16 years he's painted the car twice. That's what he does for a living except he repairs and paints big trucks tractors and such. He gets excited about getting the car out and driving and we even hit Corvette events so he could buy things that's missing. All he does with all the stuff just put it either in the trunk of the car or in his garage where they will never be found again. You really did a hell of a job on this car. You did scared of living hell out of me when you started talking in the middle of power washing about the door not shutting it again. It just took me by surprise that you started speaking. I hope the owner of this car appreciate what he has. I hope he does not let it sit again and rot away. Cars like this are not meant to sit in a driveway or under a tree.

Ahhh...a yellow Corvette. The OEM paint would get chalky and "bumpy" even with regular washings. High maint. color. I am amazed with how much pigment was left in the one you detailed. It had to have been a repaint. I had the weirdest optioned corvette [safari yellow, comparable to the car you did] ever. It was a 1968 convertible. Base engine, A/C, power windows, AM/FM stereo, tilt/tele column, tinted glass, power brakes and steering, wheel covers, and alarm. I think there were a few factory doodads I am unable to recall. All of these options, backed by a THREE SPEED MANUAL!! From the factory, that was the base transmission. The base engine was a 327/300 HP. It was so equipped. All 4-gears and the turbohydramatics were options! Nice job, considering what you had to work with. You do good work!

Thanks for bringing another beautiful C3 back to life. Nice job but typical of old paint to do what it did. It's great that you pulled it out of the barn to save. Given the apparent high level of moisture in storage, the birdcage is probably in bad shape meaning restoration is going to get expensive. These beauties need to be kept in a dry environment since the birdcage is a key element of the chassis integrity. She cleaned up nicely!
