This is a very nice car. The 375 horsepower (l78) was not very popular they made 2144. Also 52 cubic inches was the closest chevy engine to it. The 70 396 had a .030 over bore making it a 402. GM advertised it as a "396". The l78 was only in early production of the 70 model year.

The 70 Roadruner 440 six-pack was a stout car at that time, but still, nowhere close to the 70 SS454.

@TheDodgeChallenger In 1970 the 427 was enlarged to 454 Cu In. And the closest chevy engine is no other than the 396 (that was 58 Cu in. smaller)

If I had a 1970 LS6 Chevelle and the wife would tell me that the car had to go, I'd tell her that "No, YOU have to go!" Wives do NOT tell their husbands what to do, about ANYTHING!

My uncle owns a 1970 Chevelle SS 454, he and my other uncle found it in a field in Kentucky, the car has the 4 speed manual, no a/c bc it’s the LS6, however, it does have crank windows and a vent that you pull that lets the outside air flow into the interior of the car, it has 60k original miles on it

You going to have Patrick Glenn Nichols "muscle car barn finds" come and document it? One of the best to authenticate it.

Many of those musclecars where hp rated around 5000 rpms. Just to make it easier for the customer to insure it, and buy them.

The ‘70 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 did not have solid lifter cams from the factory. The only engine GM sold in a passenger car with solid lifters was the LT1 350 Corvette. I know this because I lived it. I had a 1970 Chevelle SS454 LS6. Cranberry Red over Black. It did have aluminum high rise intake manifold, 780 CFM Holley 4 bbl carb, Muncie M-22 Rock Crusher 4 speed manual transmission with a Hurst Super Shifter, Cowl Induction hood, 4:11.1 positraction. It was 1976 and I was 20 years old. It was my second car. It followed a 1969 Pontiac GTO with 421 HO engine, M22 4speed. My GTO was Warwick Blue over Black. GTO was tuned and maintained by Nunzi Romano of Nunzi’s Automotive in Brooklyn NY (Mr. Pontiac). I next had a 1968 Corvette convertible with 427 L88 engine. That car was built by Joel Rosen as a Phase II Motion Performance Corvette. Medium Blue with white Motion Stinger paint stripe and tail.

Wrong. 375 hp 396,425 hp &450 hp 427s, 435 hp 427, l-88 430 hp, ls6 1970 450&425 hp 71, 283s, 327 340 hp 365 hp, 375hp fuelies all had solid lifters from Chevy. My family and I owned plenty, just Google it.
For me performance has nothing to do with it...I just love the 68 body style of the chevelle...even a plain jane non ss model so it would not matter when I LS swapped it ..a stock 5.3 and 4L60 would be great....put the old 327 badges on it murdered out sitting right.. Everyone has a dream car...this is mine.
@robrobster9148 Жыл бұрын
@@harryguy76 So true. And performance is just a relative subject when you cruise in a classic car, that might as well be your favorite year right.

Chevy did produce a higher compression version of the LS6 with a bigger cam, the LS7 454. It would have been the most powerful production muscle car engine, but GM only sold it as a crate engine. Either they didn't want to warranty cars or drivetrain components under the stress of such power, or they didn't want record high numbers of dead teenagers... And the LS7 also required a minimum of 108 octane gas.
@Mcleod00006 жыл бұрын
what did the LS6 require for gas , it's what 11.25 to 1 compression ? I didn't hear an overlap in the cam , can you even drive this on pump gas?
@kurtzimmerman16375 жыл бұрын
No. Can't drive it on pump gas. It needed sunoco 260. 100 octane. Been there done that. Chevy did make the ls7 engine in 1969 or early 1970. It was rated at 465 horsepower.
@kurtzimmerman16375 жыл бұрын
@Moon Pie chevy did make an LS7 in late 1969 or early 1970. They never put the engines in production cars, but you could buy a crate engine for about $3000 . A lot of money in 1970. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWjSgpaXfrFsrqs here is one in a Baldwin motion vega
