Good video. I have a couple of older outboards that ran and were unmounted and put away years ago. Always kept in the garage. Got the boating bug again. So time to get'em running again. I need to find a video that shows how to gap points.

That carb is screaming fix me ! Lol. My book says Champion RJ8C / J8C , go figure ! I have a 69 and 70 Johnson 25hp and I surely do like them !

Where ya get that spark tester gizmo I could use one sometimes it's tricky checking spark especially by yourself without electric start lol

I think you made a mistake with the plug number J4C are the right plugs no big deal the one you said L77JC4 or QL82-C are for CD motors which came out in 1977 and have longer threads and different heat value.Just a shout out Those 25Hp I still have many and sold many they are the best 25HP OMC ever built in my opinion simple and lightweight and at 22 cubic inches fantastic motors just provided one to a local Fire Dept a 1973 model ran like a top ... love 18-25HP videos thanks for posting ............................ @@kodibassInsideoutboards Well I dont think its that very important but when you see them then it would be self explanatory that those other plugs wouldnt be the right ones probably still better than those permagaps in there ,LOLL which came with the motor.Love your videos and This Ole Outboards too I only have one video myself with a 9.5 but that may change................ Hey man just got one of these guys rebuilt and running, had it running all day fine but now it runs about 10 seconds misses twice and shuts off.

@@kodibassInsideoutboards No it will not, just changed out the fuel pump too and charging coils. Is it possible it could be bad capacitors?

@@willerskine2061 Could B, What I would do is get 2 in-line spark checkers run motor and see if you are getting spark rite up 2 the time of it dying, If so Then I would let it cool down restart it as soon as it misses & starts to die, I would spray some mix gas or tri-flo into the carb & see if it continues to run. kodi

+John Tapley, Although a 4 cycle outboard is more complex than a 2 stroker, It can last decades. It' like all mechanical equipment depends on how it is cared for. PERIOD! I have a friend who has a 10hp Honda Blue & white 4 stroke, It is (quarter century) 25 years old looks and runs like new. kodi

Well, Rube Goldberg really got after that electric choke, it is all ass backwards and farkled up...Standard magneto ignition, cool! Hate that low tension stuff. I thought the QL77s/82s were for the MagCD engines, I would stick with the J4C/J6Cs. Don't know what the rattling is, but doesn't sound internal...Perhaps it is the electric choke mess.

Heyy kodi. 25 hp evinrude wont run unless full throttle. To fire up. Can back down to half. Any lower it dies?

I cleaned carb. Since somethings not set right. Thinking high idle screw is outa adjustment?

+RB, the original stop switch is in front right side of lower pan, 2 the right of the lean rich adjuster. kodi

@@kodibassInsideoutboards yea this is a 68 25 johnson and has electric start with no killswitch other than the key switch. I just got fire to the top plug much like this video .

Actually the ones that go in there are a champion j4j l77 jc4 just so you will know I've dealt with these motors for about 45 years
