1971-72 Television Season 50th Anniversary: The Smith Family (Season 2 theme intro & finale opener)

I remember this show. It wasn't on for very long; but it had a great cast.

Big change from "Primrose Lane" to Fonda opening a door and laying down a line of fire.

What I remember most about this show is that the wife was always concerned about the dangers of her husband's career, and that the youngest son said "Dodd" instead of "Dad" and his comments were rarely related to what the others were discussing.

So much different than the season 1 opening. An unexpected hit in it's first season finishing at #21 for the season ( 1970-71). It was a no brainer for ABC to renew it . But for some reason the producers changed the tone of the series. The show aired 30 minutes later on the same day ( Wednesday). Ratings sunk like a rock. After airing the first 16 episodes without interruption the series was pulled in early January of 1972. Essentially cancelling it. The remaining episodes were burned off beginning in mid April of that year. Looks like the producers forgot the old saying...."If it ain't broke ... don't fix it".

Another show that did moderately well in its first season then got pointlessly changed: THE LITTLE PEOPLE turned into THE BRIAN KEITH SHOW.

This opening has a 🎞️GLENGARRY GLEN RO$$, 1992 Vibe, "SUSPENSEFUL" Leading into a... "SATURDAY EVE POST MAG." Golden Era📺 Vibe Quite an ANTITHESIS in this Intro!~ -💚*🙏🏽

Henry Fonda wasn't a bad actor, the show was just a poor fit for him. His acting style really isn't suited to an action hero.
