I have seen a few on eBay and Amazon was sold out. My local sources don't have them yet as I checked today. Can't wait to get my hands on a few of them. Thanks for the white glue video as I learned a few things prior to my build. Break out the drill and open up some holes. I have a 3 D printed hemi and some "Billy the Kidd" decals I plan on using on the second one. Neat O!

I am a big believer in test-fitting the model together as you show. I have to shake my head when I watch a build video in which the builder goes straight to paint and build. Whenever I do that I ultimately run into issues of all sorts, but for some reason their build goes together fine (LOL.) I particularly liked the one you did on the Revell 70 Roadrunner and the issue with the interior tub. Good work!

Thank you so much for watching. I don’t test fit Tamiya kits or Hasegawa. But pretty much all Fujimi and American kits I do. I also rarely use primer on non body parts. 😁

Like you said it is a great candidate for kit bashing parts from the 71 Duster. Oh and I think the taillights are kinda tall and the centerline on the hood is a little too pronounced. Don’t forget the oil filter on all 340’s should be angled back. They made this adapter so the larger filter can be used and clear the torsion bars. Thanks for the review. I’ll be getting mine soon.

When I saw this kit was gonna come out, it reminds me of my childhood neighbor who had a Duster. I’m getting old in my age, and was seriously considering building models of cars that people in my past, had an influence on me. Trust me, that there’s a lot of em! The way you do the white glue pre assembly, was a huge, mind opening experience! I’ve never tried that, even though I have been building models since the seventies. My main focus was on building race cars. Now that I’m considering focusing more into cars of people, and memories of my past, your videos are giving me a sense that I should build more street cars. I know that there’s much more involved with a street car, than a race car, and I’m looking forward to giving it my best shot. That White glue process, looks like a great way to approach it. Thanks for sharing your technique with us!

Count me as another fan of your white glue builds. I gained an appreciation of them when you put that '49 Ford together in an extended series. Even though that car was eventually painted and detailed, your white glue pre-build served as an excellent walk through. That interior being a tub is going to make a black/white or orange/black interior more of a challenge.

James, not sure where one of your responses was, but in it you broke down in specifics, why Round 2 took the approach they did with the Demon. First, I was impressed. What are you like the Edward Snowden of the modeling world? Second, it somewhat tempered by disappointment with their choice. But not completely. You mentioned the choice to spend the money to give the Demon more of the Duster's detail would have been a "big gamble". I think it is one that would have paid off. The AMT Duster has been available pretty much since its release in the early 2000s. I have to believe that kit and the money spent to develop it has to be considered a success.I think betting on similar detail level Demon would have paid off. Kind of hard to tell now though, as I see it as a Lose/Lose situation. Poor sales of the Demon Kit as it is: "See, this kit did not sell as it is, glad we did not spend the extra money on it." Or a really good selling unit: "We did great with the simpler tooling. Higher detail from a bigger budget would have been a waste of money"
@ScaleModelExperiment
@ScaleModelExperiment 8 ай бұрын
I see you point Jason. I have a friend at AMT so I have a little bit of knowledge of how it works. The duster is not a digital file so it would have to be scanned and converted to digital then modified digitally to fit through demon body. That’s a significant cost in time and resources. Making a few changes to a dinosaur to make it a better kit was the safer more economic choice. That way 2 or 3 kits can be put out instead of 1.

Hey James! I'd knew you would pick out this new kit and do a white glue review on it. I really enjoy this method of in box reviews that you do. Putting it together quickly and temporary shows us how it'll come out. This is from the original MPC 71 Demon which which has quite a few revisions on it and it goes together much better than the original. I think the kit looks great all around but as far as me, I'd jack it up in the rear just a tad. It looks like its sagging a bit, I could be wrong? Depends how one feels about it. I do think that this car looks better than the Plymouth Duster, and I think its rare, only produced for 2 years. Thanks for this video! It was really entertaining and educational

When trying to mount the front wheel on the Coronet, the plastic round pins that go into the back of the wheelback broke off. Also, the metal rear axle was too short. So, use caution when using those round plastic wheel pins.

Someone please explain to me why Round 2 did a all new tooling mocking what MPC did in the '60s and early to mid '70s... especially when they did a pretty nice '71 Duster 340 with proper suspension and platform interior a few years ago... it's almost the same exact car!

Hi Robert, here’s the reason why: the tooling for the 71 Duster was not done in CAD, so therefore the “files” don’t exist to alter them to fit the Demon kit. Therefore to make an accurate Demon all of the parts would have to be made from scratch in CAD. The team at AMT has an annual budget that they can spend on reissues, new tools and straight reissues. No one person holds the money so they have to propose a list of what they think the general modeling community will buy. Spending some money to refresh an old tool is a good value vs an all new tool which is a huge gamble. I’m not part of AMT but I do understand what goes on there. I’m grateful to have the Demon and others back on the shelf to build instead of paying ridiculous prices for them on eBay. With some time and some moderate skills a very detailed Demon can be built using the Duster kit.

@@ScaleModelExperiment I know how they are using CAD for new kits and I will have one of these very soon, but the real question is why make an all new tooling using a very out of date chassis design? I have several vintage MPC Mopar kits I need to buy doner kits to finish as it is... I get it with the reissues like the '69 Barracuda and '76 Dart Sport... but an all new tooling???

I understand your point. Only some of the parts were created with new tooling. It’s strictly a budget thing. Putting all of your budget into 1 new kit is very risky.

@@ScaleModelExperiment I understand that but how much more would it have cost to mold a separate driveshaft??? To separate the exhaust from the rear end? And it's not like R-M haven't been doing 1 piece K frame and front suspension for over 40 years... Knowing how popular this kit is going to be, how hot Mopars are right now and by mid summer, Hobby Lobby will order hundreds of thousands of them... well... I'm still happy it's finally out and I'm still buying two of 'em...

@@ScaleModelExperimentBTW... I don't see anything that matches original MPC parts at all, yours is the best unboxing video I've seen of this kit yet and I pulled out my 1978 or '79 vintage 'Smokey convoy chaser' Dart sport kit and see nothing that matches the Demon kit... ive had several MPC Duster annuals and they are all exactly the same as the 'Smokey' and all it's reissues...
