1971 Pontiac Grand Prix Junkyard Find. This 71 poncho J model had a few goodies on her. She was pretty well worn, but she was all there with the 4bbl 400 still under the hood as well as the factory bucket Seats and tilt floor shift steering column. Plenty of good parts still left on this one.

One of (if not) my favorite year for the Grand Prix. Always loved the rear end treatment with the point right in the center and those sleek tail lights. Always reminds me of the late 60's Rivs. There's a clean one on the market here in my state with it's #'s matching drivetrain.

Whoa Nelley, it's a Model J, don't you say. That's the one that was cheap, now it's a heap. 1970 was the first year for power disc brakes being standard in a Grand Prix. I think John DeLorean had a hand in the design of this one. We got the VIN and we win: 2 for Pontiac, 76 for Grand Prix, 57 for two door, 1 for 1971 model year, A for Atlanta, GA assembly, and the rest is the production sequence. My coworker has a '69 also with a 400 and also a Model J. He got it from his uncle years back and it was bought used locally in NYC. I'd grab the 400/400 (engine and trans) combination, good to have. Good tool haul. Yes, Bonney is a good US made tool of the past, nothing wrong with it. Bill McDavid Pontiac was dealer #21-281 and was located at 2917 West 7th St Fort Worth, TX. There was also David McDavid Pontiac, dealer #21-283 located at 2630 W Irving Blvd Irving TX which is a U-Haul facility now. The McDavid name is still around as you said, but I don't think they have any GM locations, it's Ford and Honda. Bill and David were brothers. Bill McDavid died in 2009 and left the car industry around 1992 due to health reasons and then went into the music industry. We got the tag, we can brag: 71 for 1971 model year, 27657 for Pontiac Grand Prix, A for Atlanta, GA assembly, 294 for Dark Sienna interior trim, B80 for roof drip molding, 67 67 for Castillian Gold upper and lower exterior paint, and 03E for the fifth week of March 1971 production (the week of my birth, could have been made on my birthday which was the Monday of that week). I agree, I don't think that 2008 sticker is for that car because I believe the put the last six of the VIN # on the lower right of the sticker and that doesn't appear to match the VIN for this car. The Sam's where that TV was bought is now a B&H Discount Furniture store. The other location is Norma Stone's Home Decor and More. Sharp's US offices were in Mahwah, NJ at the site of the old Ford Mahwah, NJ plant which closed in 1980. Today, parts of Land Rover/Jaguar and Amazing Savings Bank are there. Whoa Nelley, this one is done, the battle hasn't been won. Sold by Bill, and put some money in his till. Groovy insides, but nearing its' demise. It once was sharp, now it's only good for parts. It's going to be flat and that's that. Time to quit, that's it. Made at the time I came around, now it's going to the junk pound. It's going to get squished and I'm personally pretty pissed.....

I had a friend who's dad bought him a 70 model J 400 4 barrel that was like new in 79 he totaled it not long after he got it and it was a nice car and another friend mine bought a 455 and turbo 400 out of a 70 SJ to put in his 69 Firebird. I never had a real Grand Prix an 88 with the 2.8 and a 95 GTP with the 3.4 a weird looking engine.

@@garymckee8857 Yup, the last "real" GP was 1987 when it was still rear wheel drive. The Pontiac 400 in this would swap right into my '79 Trans Am (also a 400). I believe many of the parts such as bracketry are even the same part numbers.

Was Atlanta Georgia assembly the same as Doraville Georgia or are they 2 different plants?
@googleusergp
@googleusergp 3 жыл бұрын
@@stepheng3667 Two different plants, and both operated at the same time for a number of years. Doraville opened in 1947 and closed in 2008. Atlanta assembly was called "Lakewood Heights", it opened in 1927 and closed in 1990. The last car assembled at Lakewood was a square body Caprice and was given away to an employee. I had a 71 GP in High School, what a great car. It was mint, sadly I sold it to go to help pay for college. The 71 is pretty rare, GM workers were having a strike in 71 and not many GPs were built because of it. Thanks for sharing this find.

unbroken outside door handles for these have to be like gold. My dad's 70 had a broken one in 1980. The deck lid was shot too, rotted out, super common. Console lid had a strange warp in the vinyl. Interesting that it's a base Model J but has the tilt. Glad someone else appreciates these cars.

Another good video man I didn’t like the single headlights on those year gp but Otherwise next too the last great gp the 1973 too 77 gp were also great cars that 400 and turbo 400 trans are worth salvaging those opera windows and that velour interior was popular in the 70s and early too mid 80. Those small chrome mud flaps were popular but were mainly for looks they didn’t do much keep mud off the side off the car in 1969 when that gp model came out Pontiac called it 2 tons off total mobility with the longest hood in the business 😊👍

I hope you pulled the top half of the engine.. The heads and intake are great for any preformance build...Even the worn 400 engine would be a good prospect these days. The front disk set up for any A body and it might even have a good rear. Thats a good parts car.. You found a treasure trove of stuff! Wow even a correct complete rally wheel in the trunk! The rear is a good one to have and sometimes the High preformance ones came with a 12 bolt..

My preference I'd my Oldsmobiles. I never got a bad one. I have a 1978 Delta 88 Royale. It was a 1 owner 33.000 mi car. It had all the dealer paperwork and window sticker. A older gentleman ordered it new and never drove it. It's a Wisconsin car with absolutely no rust on it. It spent its life in a climate-controlled garage. My other is a 1984 olds Regency that my father bought brand new and handed it down to me. That one has 150,000 miles on it what is in good shape and a nice driver. The Delta is a little too perfect I cringe when I take it out I'm afraid a rock make chipped the paint LOL. Keep making your videos Benny I enjoy seeing them all

@Cj Morgan I took the buckets, the column, and the engine. Around that same time there was a 70 GP at Little Johns in ft worth as well. That one did have power windows. Sat there for about a week before someone snagged them
