My uncle had a brand new '71 like this but with the hubcaps. My sisters and I thought it was the coolest car we had ever seen.

I had one of these! It was baby blue and I had it painted black. Got it from the used car lot I worked at in Texas City Texas. It had 50k miles on it. Paid $1200 for it in 1978. Drove it beyond 180k, but I don’t know how much more because the odometer broke. I estimate 220k. I needed a work truck and traded it in. Worst mistake of my life. I knew every nut and bolt on that car because I replaced or repaired almost every bit of it! The only thing that I didn’t get into was the engine block.

The most collectable of all the Celicas and one of the most collectable of all Toyotas. Those bumper guards have to go and that engine needs some work. Awesome job on the paint and finish.

The hatchback was actually nicer yet I thought. The poor boy's Mustang.

@@westerlywinds5684 I'm pretty sure the liftback wasn't until 77. And I think it was never offered with the slant nose. Notice that the hood has no bump in the center, that's known as the slant nose and was part of the first of the first gen. The slant nose was copied from the 1968 Camaro and the liftback in 77 was copied from the Mustang. I'm not sure how much cheaper it was compared to the Camaro or Mustang, but the real advantage is that you get 25+ MPG and in the early 70s, that was a really big deal.
