This is the first World Series I ever watched. I remember running home from school to catch the end of Game 2, 3 and 5.

First generation straight camera feed. Totally amazing. As we watched it in '71. Baseball mattered so hugely then, when we were gentlemanly as a country; when we knew what decorum was, and practiced it faithfully; when the game was all, and any of the peripherals to it, even in SUM, were of distant importance. For those under 30 or 35 years old, you cannot imagine our excitement then, while waiting for the broadcasts, and, no, we didn't have to be a big fan of either side... and we DIDN'T have to be wagering.

That’s true. We appreciated televised games because there was only one maybe two all week plus This Week in Baseball till the Superstations like WTBS,WGN,WWOR,started

I was there and 10 years old in 71. I cried after game 7. Notice there was polite applause for the visitors. Different time.

I too was too young to pay attention to this World Series and I was living in a Pittsburgh suburb of Castleshannon. My Dad's office was walking distance from Three Rivers Stadium.

Tony Kubek nailed his prediction.
@spryfolII2 жыл бұрын
Kubek was one of my favorite analysts and later color guy, just a great all around broadcaster who could've easily did your nightly news or Sunday political show. During the mid 70's when Joe Garagiola took over NBC lead PBP for baseball, I thought that pairing was just as good as CBS NFL team of Pat Summerall and Tom Brookshire. They both gave tremendous knowledge, insight, humor, and timing. Kubek though always had the knack of predicting how a inning will turn out in progress as well as getting into the mind of a player or manager mapping out situations and what it means now and later. For Tony to make that prediction of a Pirate win in 7 was Kubek at his analytical best. The Pirates pitching was just as good as the Orioles, but the speed, bat contact, and Clemente made the difference.

There were 4 complete games in this series: McNally in this Game 1: Steve Blass (2), in Games 3 and 7 (defeating Cuellar twice, allowing one run in each game); and a two-hit shutout by Nelson Briles (defeating McNally) in Game 5.
Thanks. What was your source for this game did you take it off a deleted KZbin or transfer it yourself? Easier to watch than the other versions. Just was curious

McNally is not in the Hall of Fame if that is what you are asking. McNally did have a good career just not a long enough duration of a career to allow him to be voted in. Yes, he was a good pitcher though.

Kubek's prediction had to be based on some sort of dislike for the Oriole organization because on paper & reality the Orioles had an all around superior team than the Pirates.
