This was the opening used by "Days of Our Lives" from 1972 through 1993. The only change from the beginning was the removal of the "Copyright 1972 Corday Productions" subtitle, which was removed weeks before this recording was made in 1985. It's kind of hard to see in this MP4, but careful observation reveals a slight line -- midway up the mound of hourglass sand after the appearance of the title -- which reveals the duplication of a couple of lines of video above and below the original copyright info in order to cover over it. Perhaps more noticeable is the freeze of the wooden sections of the glass -- captured, frozen and overlaid into place to the end from just before the appearance of the title.

Listening to this, I am a little boy visiting my grandmother in North Carolina in 1965. She loved her stories! Memories

I remember hearing this theme in every house in the neighborhood while cutting through lawns back in the 70s

This makes me miss my grandmother. When I lived with her during the summer I'd always hear this filtering down from upstairs.

And TV was free... only 6-7 channels, but it was free. Now we have 300 channels that cost $150 a month... 275 of those channels are nothing but garbage.

Amazing how this theme makes so many of us think of our grandmothers and of summer days long ago. I still remember the Mickey-Laura-Bill Horton storyline, and how delicately Grandma explained to me how Laura happened to have Bill's child even though she was married to Mickey. (Oops ... sorry for the spoiler from 1969! 🤣)

This brings back so many childhood memories of staying at my grandparents' house. One o'clock in the afternoon (we lived in Southern California), this would play through the house, without fail.

All of the soaps had good themes and ending. This is my favorite...I loved watching that hour glass.

I love those old-timey voiceovers. They always sounded like the same 2 or 3 guys. Nature documentaries, business training seminars, those innumerable hokey 'how the world works' videos we had to sit through in school. All the same guy(s), all old-timey and fatherly and not how real people sounded or talked at all thanks to the primitive recording tech, and how people were directed to talk in these things. Love it.

I loved this melodramatic open when I stayed home sick from school back in the 70s. I'd watch the The Price Is Right which was immediately followed by this iconic open. (I didn't watch soaps, so after the open, I'd turn the TV off or watch something else). But I always loved the music and MacDonald Carey's great voice. I could feel, even as a kid, a deep sense time's passage, accompanied by an overwhelming acceptance and realization that we are all grains of sand in a long stream of family generations, each generation with its own daily struggles. Now, almost 50 years later, memories of childhood rush in every time I come back to this opening, and my heart feels all the friends, family, activities, hopes, desires, insecurities, exploring the neighborhood with my friend, playing sandlot baseball and football with neighborhood friends, etc., etc.
