1972 Ford Torino Junkyard Find. Its been a little while since I've seen one of the these Old ford Torino models in the yard. The last one was actually just like this one. This 72 Torino was sporting an inline 6 with three on the tree. It was a pretty bare bones car and had obviously seen better days but ahe still had a few good parts.

@@emeyer6963 I'm liking the Ford 300 more and more as I get older. It's a great workhorse. The Big Three never used transmissions that would take advantage of the torque curved of these motors - they were the low cost budget motor. A nice transmission upgrade suits the 300. The 250 is pretty good with an Australian cylinder head.

@@jogmas12 yea well times have changed. Besides , torinos had GT's , fastback. Packages that were high performance packages which makes it a muscle car. Now if you were talking about a vega or pinto sure they weren't made as muscle cars but have become sought after to convert into. So idk where you think that a torino wasn't made as performance muscle cars but they are indeed. And even tho this isn't a fastback it would still be a badass street machine

@@jogmas12 Yeah well the so called muscle car "experts" are talking out of their ass. An intermediate sized car with a 375 HP 429 SCJ and 4 speed Hurst Shifter with a 4.11 locker gear that'll do low 13's -high 12's on the drag strip sounds a hell of a lot like a muscle car to me. Not that the Torino in this video is a muscle car. But saying no Torinos are muscle cars is complete bullshit. And plus Chevelle had a 4 door line too. And nobody in their right mind would say a LS6 Chevelle isn't a muscle car.

When I was a kid, my father had a similar '72 Torino that he bought used. His was dark green metallic with a 302 V8 and power steering. Like this junkyard car, it had the standard manual front disc brakes. My mom hated our Torino because it was hard to stop. That being said, my dad didn't mind the high pedal effort and liked how it stopped straighter then our '68 Mustang with all drum brakes. The junkyard car is a base Torino, not a Gran Torino, the same as my father's. The base Torino had the pebble-grained, color keyed rubber floor mat instead of carpeting like the higher series Gran Torino. It also had an entirely different full width molded plastic radiator grille. Only Gran Torinos had the oval radiator grille. The green vinyl interior of my dad's car had rough textured vinyl on the bottom seat cushion and part way up the seat backs. There were no armrests in the back seat on base Torinos. Except for the dash inlays, steering wheel and seat belts, virtually everything inside our car was "Jolly Green Giant" green. The interior of the junkyard car looks virtually identical except for the added wear. I always felt trapped riding in the back seat of our Torino. The one piece backrests with their high back integrated head restraints really divided the front and rear compartments of the car. For '73, the high back seat was replaced by a low back seat with adjustable head restraints, similar to what Torinos had in '71. The front seat belts were Ford's Uni-Lock design which allowed the shoulder belts to remain attached to the lap belt buckles. They had an irritating ratchet type retractor that tightened every time you changed position in the seat. I remember having to unbuckle the seat belt , let it retract and then buckle it again to prevent from being squeezed. That was tiring, especially on long trips. None of us really missed our Torino when my dad sold it after about 3 years of ownership. About the best thing you could say about it was that it was reasonably reliable and easy to get serviced when things did go wrong. The car at that point was about 6 years old and did not yet have any visible rust. I think my dad sold it at exactly the right time.

Whoa Nelley, oh my Lord in a (soon to be) flattened Ford, slow down and take a look at me. Yup, that dealer is still in business at 1701 W Loop 340, Waco, TX 76712. Yes, 1972 was the change to body on frame construction, the Torino name would run through the 1976 model year. No, from what I read, disc brakes were an option as far back as 1968 on the Torino line. Gary Rossington of the band Lynyrd Skynyrd would make one famous when he crashed it into a tree on Mandarin Road in Jacksonville on Labor Day 1976, whilst high on Quaaludes and alcohol. That spawned Ronnie Van Zant, the lead singer of the band to write the song "That Smell" and earn Rossington the name "Prince Charming" as a pejorative term of sorts. Mr. Van Zant would fine Mr. Rossington $5,000 due to lost gigs of the band due to his injuries. He knocked out many of his teeth as a result of the accident. We got the VIN, we win: 2 for 1972 model year, A for Atlanta, GA assembly, 25 for Torino two door, L for straight six 250 CID engine with one barrel and the rest is the production sequence. We got the tag, we can brag: 65B for two door Torino hard top, 4P for Medium Green Metallic exterior paint, ARA for green vinyl interior, transmission of 1 is a three speed manual, axle of 6 is a 3:00:1 non-locking rear end ratio and DSO of 52 is Dallas TX. Looks like it's been sitting for a while and we know where it's going to wind up..... Whoa Nelley, the original selling dealer's business card, very rare. I have them for my cars, including my '80 Trans Am. Sold new at Bird, now it's a turd. It once was thrifty and cheap, now it's a heap. It's going get flat, and that's that. It should yield some parts for other cars, before it heads to the stars. It's going to get squished, get the parts that are still good or we're gonna get pissed.

In 1972 thru 1975 few things advertised your responsible, employed middle class status better than a brand new Ford Torino. There were many, many of them on the road at that time, unfortunately they were extremely prone to rust on Northern salty roads so by the 80's they were largely gone. (Customers learned again the lesson 'middle class' meant buy ing yet another new car I suppose). Thanks for that trunk view of the car in the opening sequence, the patina seems to telegraph 1972 with its faded factory finish leaving lines that only a factory finish can. This car is an artifact, I hope it survives.

That is too bad this Torino couldn't have been preserved. This is the most basic Torino from the 1972/76 series I've ever seen. I have only seen one other six cylinder model and the first with three on the tree. I've seen 4 speed floor shift high performance models, but never a three speed. This isn't even a Gran Torino which means that the front uses an exclusive hood, full width grill and different front bumper then all other 1972 Gran Torinos that we are used to seeing. This Torino makes my 72 Gran Torino seem like top of the line.

I'm guessing it was hit in the front sometimes in the 80s or 90s and just left to sit in someone's yard. Wasn't even a parts car considering everything seems to be intact.

Likely would have been a four door in such case. I think it was just a thrifty original buyer (or dealer that ordered it that way), but yes, rare. Most had a V8 and by 1972 also had PS, PB and AC as well.

Plain Jane base models like this were what Nascar teams used to buy and convert into actual stock cars back then, or they were given to you if you were factory sponsored.
