Great playing, and that Hiwatt delivers absolutely epic tone. That's one of the best sounding amps I have ever heard. [Jealousy sets in. Eyes the Marshall JTM in the corner, and daydreams it magically turns into a Hiwatt DR103...]
@nickybobby9317 Жыл бұрын
I know it’s been half a decade but get yourself an overdrive pedal that has the same tone stack circuit man. I know Hiwatt makes their own overdrive pedals now but I’ve had a Catalinbread RAH for years and am pleasantly surprised at how well it nails this tone, even despite being apparently designed after Jimmy Pages slightly modified Hiwatt circuit.

That's what I love about HiWatt amps, they sound so aggressive yet so sweet.
@Stringbrute9 жыл бұрын
Seriously great tone, loved it. Perfect playing to hi light the great distortion qualities of this classic amp. Basically an early boutique amp maker and the one who's wiring is the benchmark against which all others are compared.

Hiwatt without a shadow of a doubt. None of that nasty brittleness you can get with Plexis or the mud of a JMP/JCM, just pure wailing rock'n'roll...
@Cluless024 жыл бұрын
100% agreed - actually I’d rather do without Marshall in any case. But nothing beats a CP-504/Fanes (Ferrite).

Well, there are already a good number of strat Hiwatt demos on the net as it is. Due to David gilmour I'd suspect. Wanted to offer something a little different then expected.

So glad you did it with a humbucker! Now, THAT is the tone. That amp likes to be pushed hard with more output from a humbucker! This was the video I've been searching for.
@MKULTRAism11 жыл бұрын
Finally someone who can play well & crank the amp up. You NEED all that volume to attain the unique tone that the amp is known for. Good job, sir...Nice job indeed!.

Absolutely beautiful tone in this video. Nothing like the tone of alnico speakers. And of course the DR103 is sweet! Killer, killer, killer sound man!
@michaelwoods90056 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure Hiwatt fanes were ceramic magnets.
@jimcamp24232 жыл бұрын
I'm impressed with the Fane speakers. I like the fact that they have a narrower product line for Alnico, Ceramic & Neodymium. I find the other brands muddy the process with so many weirdly named speakers that start to approach absurd in trying to sort out the speakers you want. Fane's no nonsense approach, either like them or not, is refreshing in the modern era of cab drivers. Would be nice if they were 8, 10 & 12 inch sizes. But I get it too, only in 12 inch and they're gig/stage ready. I have a 1x12 that would be a good candidate to adopt & home a Fane driver.
@traditionaltemple2 жыл бұрын
Jim- you can purchase a terrific reproduction of the best Fane ever made, the late 60's "Purple" frame (cast, not punched) from Reeves Amps. $129.00. Dave Reeves was one of the original Hiwatt guys. I have two Hiwatts, a Lead 100 and a Custom 20 2x10 Combo( both old from the Custom Shop ) and an early 70's 4x12 Hiwatt cab. I also have a custom built single 12 cab with an original early 70's Fane. Killer speakers. A unique tone. I like Plexi's too, but the Hiwatts are like the Rolls Royce of British Amps for me.

Great sound Tyler. I like that jam you put together too.That is one of my favourite hard rock combos- 70's LP Custom into a Hylight-era Hiwatt 100. (Like Martin Barre used on Stand Up and Benefit- two of my favourite Tull records). I can come pretty close with my 76 SA112 50-watt combo and 74 white LP Custom though.

Why does this sound better than anything Marshall have made in the last 20 years?
@domrh17 жыл бұрын
Better than anything Marshall kave EVER made. Military grade components & engineering. Only vintage amp I'd buy - just need to find one...
@scottexler13757 жыл бұрын
The Les Paul had some part in the nice tone too.. I wonder how a Strat wud sound thru it
@SoloEpi7 жыл бұрын
Lesser quality components put together to mimic their vintage counterparts to achieve quick build time and more products on the market. It's all about profit.

Not enough gain for me. I prefer Marshall.
@darwinsaye5 жыл бұрын
For my taste, Marshall got off track when they started focusing on ultra high gain amps in 80s. JTM45 and Super Bass were the best sounding amps they ever made.

ok to say it again: That's the tone right there.
@jsullivan2112 Жыл бұрын
Folks if you're planning on buying one of these for that tone, get an attenuator. You have to absolutely dime the amp to get this sound, and it's not worth the punishment to yourself or others at blistering volume. You can get this sound from other amps and still save your hearing. And I'm not hating on Hiwatts, I own a '76 and love it. But it's at it's best when it's loud and CLEAN, with pedals going into it.
