I was there as a guest of Buddy Bakers and got to meet all the drivers and sat in Buddys car and Richard pettys. Watched the race with Buddys family at the stands in the infield of turn 4 with the safety safari. I was 11 years old then. Bussy was the nicest man you could ever meet.

For all his accolades The Great Bobby Allison is still SO UNDERRATED 😠 Just came back to say maybe the power's that be in NASCAR should sit Ross Chastaine down & make him watch these two Titan's of the sport go at it, see Ross, you actually can pass someone "without wrecking them" 😉

Breathtaking! Glad I’m 61and grew up in stock cars Golden Days. I went to the 1970 Talledega Went to the Talladega 500 Hundred in 1970; won by Pete Hamilton. A small crowd gathered by the fence; and David Pearson took the time just to chat with us. A good simple gesture; made by David Pearson; gave this 12 year old an incredible memory! The tape is in my head; many decades later.

Man, that pit crew looked like they were getting soaked with fuel when doing the re-fills...
@chadmiller78764 жыл бұрын
Yeah i dont know how they didn't get it in their eyes as much as they used to splash it around. I always thought it would have been wise to create a sort of pan like an oil pan or something thats on wheels that a crew member could wheel over behind or beside the car to catch some of the fuel spillage. If you watch some old races like this one, they really wasted alot of fuel. I know time is everything but a pan on wheels rolled up by a separate man while they are fueling wouldn't have cost anymore time if done properly and positioned where the car wouldn't run over it and the fuel man wouldn't trip.

I was five and do not remember; however, during this time models of both of those cars were popular. My late father built what was either Revel or AMT brand plastic build models of both of these cars and I still have them in storage 45 years later.

If Allison & Jr Johnson had stayed together there is no telling how many races they would have won
@bloqk166 жыл бұрын
it's been said that if Johnson & Allison had stayed together, Allison could have easily attained the #2 spot for all-time NASCAR wins; and may have contended for Petty's record of 200. But, I've read Allison's autobiography, where he contends that, for Bobby, Johnson was difficult to get along with. One of the major reasons Johnson got Allison to drive for him was the personal sponsorship contract that Allison had with Coca-Cola.
@sludge41256 жыл бұрын
Allison was difficult to deal with.
@edmiller83966 жыл бұрын
Bobby had to throw some of his own $$ in to make the deal happen. Yes, Bobby was intense, but no communication from the other side. Sad, they would've had a TON of wins together.

I wish more ABC NASCAR coverage from 72 and 73 could be found.
This was the 1st race I ever watched ! & I was only 14; I watched it with my Dad who was a big time David Pearson fan; As well as a Mercury fan . I was strictly a Chevrolet fan more than anything. I do remember my Dad looking at me crossed eyed while I was cheering for the Chevrolet, & Bobby Allison. Latter I became a Cale Y. fan; Then a Dale E. fan. & the last driver I became a fan of was Jimmy J.But I was always a Chevrolet fan . & I'll never forget Bobby A. who got me into watching NASCAR racing; As well as my Dad. I don't even watch NASCAR anymore; Since J.J. retired, & team Monte Carlo.

I was a Bobby Allison, Dale Earnhardt, Davey Allison & now a Kyle Busch fan, it was hard for me to watch NASCAR after Dale's death, especially after having to go through Davey's death, I always loved drivers who loved to win & hated to lose. I am so happy RCR is back as a championship contender, he's the last of the old school team owner who started out as a driver/independent team owner (like Buddy Arrington, James Hylton, JD McDuffie & others), seeing Richard in these post race press conference's, he hasn't been this happy since Dale was still racing, he has his swagger back, and as a NASCAR fan of 45 years, I am here for it, this week is NASCAR's 6th straight sellout, and having North Wilkesboro back is so awesome.
@ACF6180T Жыл бұрын
@@BronnyJamesBricks Even though I don't watch it that much; I'm hoping Kyle B. will bring the championship back to RCR ! That would be neat. I also had a hard time watching after Dale E. Death; I still remember the news that night. I got into a pool in J.J. rookie year, & got laughed at ,But I stuck with him tell he left NASCAR . Even though he is a partner with Petty; I'm disappointed that that in 24 that they are going to Toyota . It is so over . I did pick Kyle B. to win the championship this year; I guess I'll find out later; Fingers X.

#71 Bobby Isaac eliminated in the early wreck - he quit Harry Hyde's team the next day, sick of a season where he'd blown up or crashed in over half the races.
People complain about modern NASCAR. THIS race is a TYPICAL example of races in 70s where 2 cars are on lead lap and, by the time you get to 5th place, Bailey is SEVEN laps behind HALFWAY through the “race”

@chadmiller78764 жыл бұрын
I understand what you mean but the cars back then were just so much more interesting because they were essentially "real" cars with race mods. They also were easy to distinguish from each other and used different parts and engines. The cars of today are all the same and arent anything like real cars. They are over engineered machines built with computers and cost more than all those old cars combined. They just aren't as interesting and the cars have no personal character to them. Plus the drivers are young tech geeks now that probably couldn't even change the oil in a car. This is why Nascar is dying. Im from Ky and used to everywhere you looked you would see a nascar shirt or hat on someone or stickers and decals all over their car or truck. I never see that stuff anymore. All the people in my large family that were die hards that went to at least 2 races each season , now tell me they rarely even watch it.
