I WAS THERE WITH MY DAD ! REMEMBER THE HUGE CROWD AND THE COX PLATE ! I HAD THE PLEASURE TO SEE THIS CHAMPION HORSE AND I BACKED THE KIWI MAGNIFIQUE. FOR A PLACE ! THE WHOLE FIELD WAS FULL OF THE VERY TOP HORSES ! UNFORTUNATELY NOT LIKE TODAY ! GUNSYND ANS ALL SHOT AND THE REST OF THE FIELD WOULD CARRY THE HORSES OF TODAY AND SO WOULD THE JOCKEY S HIGGINS ! WHITE !!! I WAS. 12. YEARS OLD ! WHAT INCREDIBLE MEMORIES ! DAD AND PA ARE NO LONGER WITH ME ! LOVE ! MICHAEL IN MELBOURNE 👍👍❤️❤️❤️

Absolutely amazing win by Gunsynd, way before my time, was one of the toughest wins i have seen, I presume being a Cox Plate field the depth was top quality, makes the win even more impressive.

A great field. Tauto & Triton were great milers but Gunsynd was great over any distance

I saw Gunsynd win a Doncaster Hcp carrying 9st 7lbs on a wet Randwick.

Amazing Win by Gunsynd in a Very Strong Cox Plate in 1972....Up and Coming Kiwi, All Shot, who had Brilliantly Won The Toorak H'cp 2 weeks before, came from 2 lengths behind the pack at the home turn and sprinted incredibly quickly around the turn. He then came at Gunsynd, but The Goondiwindi Grey was Too Strong....Champion Kiwi Miler, Triton, who had famously beaten Gunsynd in the '72 Epsom H'cp, was 3 Wide the entire trip and still ran on for 6th....One of the Best Cox Plates EVER, with the two previous years Cox Plate Winners, Abdul and Tauto, racing strongly, but still unplaced....Gunsynd the week before, had finished a close 3rd behind the Brilliant 3yrold, Sobar and The Champion Kiwi Stayer, Stormy Seas, in the '72 Caulfield Cup, when Gunsynd carried 62 Kgs...He Was a Freak!!!

I think Gunsynd might have started the call.....go the grey. To come third in the Melbourne Cup which was not his aim, was amazing after all his other efforts.

I remember Roy Higgins being asked if he would ride Gunsynd in the Caulfield Cup and Roy replied "I would ride him in the Warrnambool to Melbourne Bike Race" if they want me to !
