In 2013, thanks to the Center for Investigative Reporting, it came to light that dozens of female inmates in California had been illegally sterilized in recent years. The story was a salient reminder that forced sterilization, an issue that tends to be viewed as a tragic-but-past occurrence, continues today.
Sterilization abuse includes situations in which a woman does not know she is being sterilized as well as when she is coerced or deceived in order to obtain her consent to the procedure. Misinformation is a common tool; women are often told that their status - related to immigration, housing, government benefits, or parenting - will be negatively impacted if they do not consent to the procedure. Many women are told that the procedure is temporary or reversible.
Women in the United States and beyond have historically been subjected to coordinated efforts to control their fertility, including sterilization abuse. The burgeoning women’s movement in the 1960s, and growing concerns over limits to women’s reproductive rights at that time, helped focus concerns over sterilization abuse into action.

I agree but since we can't depend on people to change their behaviour because people are naturally self-serving and make bad decisions, I think perhaps removing and reversing policies is where we should start. I think the government should start by making family courts fairer by allowing both parents to have shared custody by default instead of 1 parent by default(usually the woman) getting full custody. It's in the best interest and well-being of the child to be with both parents and the courts should honor that. Next, I think the government should change no-fault divorce back to fault divorce. Marriage is most importantly beneficial to children and it should not be easy to end them like it is now. Lastly, I think government benefits should be completely removed. Just so current recipients don't have the rug pulled out from under them, those on benefits can be allowed to continue receiving benefits as long as they meet requirements, up until death. However, new recipients will not be able to receive benefits which will allow the program to be phased out

The people (and I use that term loosely…more like “sheeple”) on this thread imagine that they are “self made” (hint: no such a being exists), never counting the millions many of their own families have raked in from the public dole in education funds, cheap home loans and free grants, nominal interest fed business loans, Workman’s Comp (aka “white man’s welfare”), farm subsidies, etc, etc.. They just think they’re more entitled than others are, yet welfare is a small pittance (6 cents on the dollar) compared to the programs I just mentioned as well as foreign aid to countries that neither need nor deserve it, military funding for wars that we’ll eventually cower away from and accept defeat, and tax-free land for mega corporations. All of these expenses are far more than the pennies we spend to feed, clothe, and house a family. The sheeple are so ignorant that they can’t understand basic microeconomics, which tells us that almost every dollar that is given to the poor (with rare exceptions) is a dollar right back to a corporation or a local business (plus tax). The poor easily part with their money, as they pay higher costs for food, transportation, housing, and services. I’m grateful for my excellent microecon professor. Apparently, no one else paid attention in class, or hardly any of ‘em attended a reputable university in the first place. The government doesn't have money. Everything they get is what they tax. Thankfully I wasn't born into nor have I as an adult ever received welfare. However, there are politicians and bureaucrats who are rich off of taxpayer money. Far more is allocated to corporate welfare than to welfare for poor individuals. Rather than advocating for the sterilization of young women as a means to control how our tax dollars are spent maybe we should look at a few other things that take up for more of our tax money and address those? That could prove to be more beneficial and far less traumatizing and divisive. Just my opinion. Some of these comments have my head spinning just about as much as this documentary does!

Statistics show that low or non-existent female hormone levels (estrogen and progesterone) leads to a shorter life expectancy and osteoporosis, dropping of abdominal organs into pelvic cavity (pelvic prolapse), and the immediate onset of menopause. Everyone should consider that everyone is equal, and are entitled to the same rights that everyone else is. There are federal funds in existence solely for the financial support of the severely disabled. I need everyone to be better than this. Discrimination against the disabled, regardless of their disability, is always wrong.

Wow, I swear I went to the doctor. I was about eight weeks pregnant maybe a little less I was spotting a little bit having some stomach cramps but that doctor put something on the inside of my uterus. In Japan they are allowed to have 2 kids and China only allows 1 and now today that policy has come back to haunt them because their population is aging out and they don't have enough young people to replace the older people leaving the work force their population has declined for the first time in their history now they are encouraging people to have children but a lot of their people have decided not to have any . It is so serious the japanese and Chinese government is offering to pay people to have kids or they will have to start importing people to their country to help replace all of the older people who are retiring and are too old to work. People will have to have children and if not the country will fall .
