The second episode tells the three weeks of the Yom Kippur War, focusing on key battles: the crossing of the Suez Canal by the Egyptian army and the destruction of the defense line Bar-Lev, the Israeli resistance on the Golan and finally against the attack led by Ariel Sharon in the Sinai following the failure of the offensive Sadat on October 14, conducted against the will of the Chief of Staff, General Saad Eddine Chazli to relieve Syrian troops difficulty. These fights are related to height of men in order to restore full strength but also the violence and the horror they aroused among soldiers of different camps.
6 October 1973 to 14 hours, while Israel celebrates Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the calendar, and that Ramadan began last ten days, the Egyptian and Syrian troops trigger an attack that takes the Jewish state? and the world? unprepared. The first pass through the Suez Canal to launch an assault on the Sinai, the second break on the Golan Heights, with the aim of regaining the territories occupied by Israel since the 1967 war flash, and wash the humiliation time. Forty years later, this war could have been avoided remains a crucial step in the Arab-Israeli conflict: it marked the end of Israeli invincibility, paving the way, six years later, the Peace Accords Camp David.
The accession to power of Anwar Sadat in October 1970 until the end of the conflict, after eighteen days of fighting and twelve thousand dead documentary Vincent Cointet offers a fascinating immersion, day day in the thoughts, motivations and decisions of its key players on both sides, most prominently Sadat and Golda Meir, but their chiefs of staff, some of their soldiers, the Secretary of U.S. State Henry Kissinger, the Soviet ambassador in Cairo ... With rare archives, many documents kept secret or ignored (diplomatic protocols, minutes of meetings, telephone conversations recorded) and testimonials from advisors, diplomats and soldiers who lived events, the film reveals in detail the geopolitical, military and diplomatic issues of the war. An exciting thriller of reality, which combines brilliantly with a novel by John Le Carré and the great story.
الجزء الثاني، وقائع الحرب ومسارها العسكري على مدى 19 يوماً، بدءاً من تدمير خط بارليف وعبور قناة السويس، مروراً بمدّ الجسر الجوي بين الولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل، وصولاً إلى الهجوم الإسرائيلي المعاكس وفتح الثغرة الشهيرة في دفاعات الجيش المصري، ونجاح دبلوماسية كيسينجر في فرض وقف إطلاق نار بموافقة الأطراف جميعاً، مما مهّد لاحقاً لعملية سلام أسفرت عن توقيع اتفاقات كامب ديفيد، وزيارة السادات التاريخية لإسرائيل، لينتهي الجزء الثاني بالإشارة إلى أن السلام ربما بدا ثمرة حرب 1973 لكنه فتح الباب أمام دخول جماعات أكثر راديكالية إلى الصراع في كل من إسرائيل والعالم العربي، وكان من أماراته اغتيال السادات مطلع ثمانينات القرن الماضي.
يضمّ الفيلم مجموعة كبيرة من المقابلات مع مسؤولين عسكريين وجنود سابقين خاضوا الحرب من الجهتين المصرية والإسرائيلية، فضلاً عن مسؤولين من الاتحاد السوفييتي السابق والولايات المتحدة الأميركية.
بموازاة ذلك، يأخذ الفيلم الى أجواء ما قبل الحرب، من اطمئنان إسرائيل إلى انتصارها عام 1967 وتطوّر تفكير السادات في شن الحرب.. ومن ثم خلاف السادات مع القيادة السوفييتية وخروجه مستاءً من لقاء القمة مع بريجنيف الذي قال له إن استخدام طائرات الميغ، في حال شُنِّت حرب، هو قرارٌ في يد الكرملين وليس القاهرة.. ولاحقاً طرد الخبراء السوفييت، وفتح قنوات الاتصال مع أميركا، ثم عدم تجاوب إسرائيل مع مقترحات جونار يارينج لإبرام صفقة سلام تعيد سيناء إلى مصر وتؤمن الملاحة في قناة السويس.
