Interesting fact about the 1974 Z28 decals is that only the white Z28’s look as originally intended by Chevrolet. The white areas of the decals were designed to be clear and the paint colour of the car was to show where the white now is. Apparently the error was only realized when the design had been sent to 3M and it was too close to production to correct the decals. The decals are the norm now and they would look odd today, at least to me, and it’s hard to imagine the opposite now. One of my sisters dated two guys in the mid-late ‘70’s that owned Z28’s one of which was a great sounding red ‘74. I had an aqua blue Nova hatchback, 350 auto, at the time followed by a white ‘77 Z28, 4 speed, Type LT interior. Great times.

Boy you aren't kidding. My first car at 16 was a 74 Z28 California Special with matching numbers. I tried to buy it back 30 years ago, he said "no, but it runs so much better now that we took that motor out and put", whatever in it. So when I contacted them again recently I found out they sold it to someone else who wrecked it. What a shame.

I had a 1977 type LT, and just was mediocre. Get the 1970 1/2 RS/SS one in lime green, black stripes, and tan interior. That is the best year and color period. Watch powernation on a full rebuild. Would love to have that car Limelight

1975 was the year the Camaro went downhill; the 74 engine is identical to the 73.The 74 Z28 retained the forged four bolt main crank and forged rods. In 75 the compression was lowered and they went to a single exhaust and the heavy duty engine internals were gone. That is why Chevy decided not to build a Z28 in 1975. They came back out with the Z28 in late 77, but it was a cosmetic option.

Also the Z28 emblem on the grille is added. The grille on all '74 Camaros, Z28 or not, should have the red, white and blue crest emblem in the center of the grille. It was only on the grille on '74 models and got moved to the header panel above the grille on '75 thru '77 cars.

I'm looking at a real 1974 Camaro brochure right now and it shows that exact decal set on a factory built 1974 Z! Only year that had them like that.

Sorry, but they are correct for for a 1974 Z28, the only year they were used. What's not correct is the Z28 emblem on the grill and on the front fenders. There should be the Camaro emblem in the center of the grill similar to the one on the horn button, and when you got the optional stripes you did not get the fender emblems. So either the stripes are correct and the fender emblems wrong or the car did not come with the stripes originally. If you did not get the stripes you got the fender emblems standard, but both were not installed at the same time from the factory.
