1975 MX USGP Carlsbad

U.S. Grand Prix, June 22, 1975, Carlsbad Raceway, Carlsbad, California.
Shot on regular 8mm film. This is unedited, 3 full 50 foot rolls.
Includes shots of morning practice session, and from all four motos (250cc and 500cc classes).

Rex Staten (#24) almost won the 1st 500cc Moto after hole-shotting, but his engine mounts broke and he faded to 7th. Gerritt Wolsink (#4) took the overall win.

This day and this race; Moto 1: Rocket Rex Staten became one of my heroes! He was taking it to the Europeans so thanks so much for that memorable day as we went and as spectators you and I were about the same age.

wow. garrett wolsink. Heikki mikkola....BRAD LACKEY....matter of fact i stayed on the BIG UPHILL...BENDING over the fence. Roger DeCoster and BRADS Jerseys whacked me in the forehead. NEVER missed the USGP at CARLSBAD. grew up inSANe DIEGO. im inspired now to look for my Super 8mm's too. love this.

SUPER! footage, I was @ this race, took a few good pics on top of a porta-jon of the Rocket Rex Staten holeshot in 500cc Moto 1, Mikkola ran well, but Gerrit Wolsink took the win. Great memories. Do you remember if Jim West was #21 or 22? Thanks.

MIRAMAR airshow,he flew the CHIPMUNK under the I-805 Rose Canyon Bridge...INVERTED! my folks STILL reside on the EDGE of ROSE CANYON,San Diego. circa 1977? witnessed it with my own eyes. Why is it that we haven't seen any of the usgp Carlsbad racing of the years of 1976 ,1977 and 1978 or even 1979? All you see is the same old stuff the overplayed 1980 race and the other boring years of 1983 and 1984.

Carlsbad was brutal to RD. I would not have blamed him if he ripped his gear off and started throwing it into his box van and maybe dropping a few F bombs. How many times can some strange gremlin bite a guy in the ass at the same track? He had to be thinking he was never going to put two good motos together at this place.

Nope, it's got to be 1975. Heikki Mikkola won the 500 cc world championship for Husqvarna in 1974, and in this film he's riding the #1 plate. If this had been filmed in '76 then DeCoster would have the #1 plate.
