My brother and I were in the Pitt student section. Pitt Stadium was a treasure. We’d walk up cardiac hill along with thousands of others on Saturday afternoons. On Monday at noon Jackie Sherrill would take game film to one of the rooms in the Cathedral and review it with anyone who cared to watch and ask questions (before he became the head coach after Johnny Majors left). Tony Dorsett was a classmate in a very small public speaking class when he was a senior. On the first day of class I remember that the TA’s jaw dropped to the floor when Dorsett walked in. The TA turned to the class and said, “Does everyone here know Tony Dorsett?” … Who? Never heard of him…. Pitt needs an on-campus stadium. It’s a completely different experience walking to the game, using the stadium for intramural sports, and so forth.

While I agree with you that an on campus stadium would be nice, it ain’t gonna happen. And for those that Pine for old Pitt stadium, here are some facts It was one of the best 5 stadiums in the country from when it was built into the 60s. I went to many games there, both as a young kid, into young adulthood, but then moved away and had a family. Season ticket holder at Heinz since 2002, I drive 3+ hours from central pa and may have missed 10/15 games in 22 years. BUT… The fans were too far from the field because of the track. Parking sucked. There was nowhere to tailgate. There were literally 12 urinals per 10000 fans. Can’t imagine what females went thru, I didn’t mind the walk because I was young then, but at 62 it would suck. Aluminum bench seats suck. Concessions a joke. Heinz isn’t perfect by any stretch, but it’s better than old Pitt stadium. Except for the students

I was an equipment guy from 99-2003. I used to run out and get the kicking tee as fast as I could and sprint back. Currently I teach at an International School in Pakistan. If Pitt built an on campus stadium, I would take 2 weeks unpaid leave and go to the opening of the stadium. It means that much to me that I would spend thousands of dollars for that.

Dorsett in this game was a man against a bunch of slow boys. His first 4 carries gained 149 yards.

That Notre Dame had Ross Browner, Bob Golic, et al. They won the national championship with many of those guys two years later. The following year at Notre Dame, the Irish grounds crew let the grass grow tall to slow down Dorsett. That did not work either. Don’t give me a bunch of garbage about how slow the defense was. Tony Dorsett was FAST!

I remember watching Dorsett his Junior season when I was a kid. Pittsburgh came to Athens Ga in 1975. Dorsett ran wild over my dawgs....best player on the field that day. The sugar bowl the following year was worse. Wish we could play Pit again....ha ha.

Was at that game. Notre Dame afterwards decided that they would not play both Pitt and Penn State in the same year. They would alternate.

I remember this game. Dorsett just tore up ND. Joe Montana was out for the season with a broken finger and didn't play. The Cotton Bowl was poised to offer ND a bid had they won.

Tells you how good that 1975 Oklahoma team was that annihilated this same Pitt team 46-10 earlier that season.

Yes that is true, was early in the season as pitt wasn’t afraid to go on the road and play good teams, but Oklahoma got their ass kicked by Kansas 23-3, late in the year, and then pitt beat Kansas in the bowl game 33-19, with 3 100 yard rushers I doubt a rematch would have been so lopsided
