1975 Yamaha RD 350 unrestored

This is my 1975 Yamaha RD 350, running on 27.5 Pilot jet, 150 main jet, needle clip position 4(2nd from bottom), air screw 1 1/2 turns out and timing set at 2mm BTDC. The oil pump works fine but leaking so currently premixing Castrol Power RS TTS 2 stroke fully synthetic oil, seems good to me with less smoke. Does anyone hear any unusual engine noise? i feel there is a noise in piston? the bike usually starts first kick, should i turn the air screw to 1 3/4 turns out? the oil pump and its connections are still there, does it pump air as the oil tank is empty now? Can anyone give a rough idea how much it'll cost to restore(painting, including frame paint, and chroming) with no engine work? Thank You.

You have THE beauty on your hands ! I gave mine away after holding on to her for 35 years (in mint, yes mint condition). ONLY because nothing as original spares was available and I wouldn't go in for aftermarket parts. No bike will ever come close to the RD, on this planet. No bike can do what the RD can do and yes, she can scare the shit out of bikes twice her size. Once you own an RD......you never want another bike. Ever.

Your RD looks great! My 350 has a little over 10K on it. I've owned it since 1978 when the second owner decided to sell it due to plug fowling, solution... hotter plugs. I had some carburetor work done in the early 90's. The seat is starting to show signs of cracking due to "sitting-memory." Except for some normal wear-and-tear (a little chrome pitting, etc.) it's in good condition... I think I'll keep it! Thanks for posting the video.

Bore out the tiny holes in the baffle sleeves in your mufflers, not any louder, but much faster. The small holes limit the amount of fuel/air mix burned. I found a definate speed increase!

if you look up rd 350 revving over 10000 rpm you'll see my bike I hopped mine up a little but I kept all stock parts I thought mine was super clean but I think you got me beat we are so blessed to own such nice 75s

..not that I'm JEALOUS of course... I've had a succession of air-cooled Yams over the years- 1971 AS3 (125), RD350A (new, 1974), 1978 RD200DX, 1979 RD400 (rebuilt/restored the hard way- there was no internet in those days) and finally another RD350A (show pony). I loved them all. Smokin'!!
