I am the cameraman, the younger kid is my brother, and the older guy is our father. My father bought the bike in the early 80s and modified/customized/rebuilt it until 2004, when it broke down one last time and he decided it was time for a new bike. He now drives an early 2000's Road King. This bike sat in the shed unused until I got my motorcycle endorsement in 2011. When I got it, my father gave me the bike. Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video! :)

@TustinVlogs I love that sound. Its way more intimidating in person

The bike has many modified performance parts in it, including an aftermarket camshaft ("cam") that has larger lobes on it. This allows more air/fuel to enter the cylinder during the intake stroke, and results in a more powerful explosion. The side effects of larger cam lobes are a crisper, snappier sound and the labored idle, which he is referring to.

So many dudes say they only bother with their shovels because its what they started on back in the day....but i'm 23 and i still punish myself trying to keep my dads going strong(ish).

the reason it was spewing oil is called"sumping" when a Harley sits for a long time, the oil in the tank drains down into the lower end. that means the check valve in the oil pump is not sealing, but that is an easy fix
@spidiq811 жыл бұрын
Beautiful, sound and looks. I could sit and listen to harley ticking over all day long, the only thing that comes vaguely close is a 50's Brit single cylinder.

Very nice! I have A '76 myself but mine is A FLH bagger. Vid makes me want to take A ride but seeing as it's 4 above I guess I'll settle for A run to the bar with the old HD snow machine. (If it starts!)

Listen closely at 0:08 right before he said "that's why I told you to buy an extra quart" and 0:27. It literally spews oil into the tray underneath it, which is right next to the enormous oil puddle :) Good ol shovelhead

how did you clean the driveway?
@kozmicdreamer10 жыл бұрын
doesn't a super low idle starve the top end for oil ?
@IgnotusMedia10 жыл бұрын
Not with these older motors. Wouldn't try it on an evo or a twin cam though.
@murraykennedy60197 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why as soon as it fires up, he runs around the bike to shut the choke off. let the motor warm up a bit! that's what chokes are for. but the worst thing is revving the shit out of it when the motor is stone cold. it obviously had not run for a bit, with the oil sumping and all
@lawrencebrandt8448 Жыл бұрын
he should be checking the charging system .

What did you mean by "it's all CAM" ?
@PhilOsGarage9 жыл бұрын
Where was the oil leaking from?
@IgnotusMedia9 жыл бұрын
***** From the overflow tube. Oil pressure would go up when the bike fired, but since it would stall almost immediately the pressure would remain and be released from the overflow tube. At least thats how I understand it
@PhilOsGarage9 жыл бұрын
Ahh, easy fix?
@IgnotusMedia9 жыл бұрын
Yeah, once the bike was running the oil didn't leak anymore
@PhilOsGarage9 жыл бұрын
Ahh fair enough, if only everything were so easy! I'm not a Harley guy, but I really liove the fact that people are so enthusiastic about them, all part of the wonderful world of biking, the bike is a real credit to you.
