Bernard Sealy had a long career. I didn't realize he competed this far back as I remember Sealy from the early '90s.

To see small waists, broad shoulders, full chests, wide backs, great thighs that do not overpower the rest of the physique and to actually see great calves on the competitors. This is real bodybuilding Generation iron knows nothing of real bodybuilding like this. KZbin bodybuilding influencers are a joke

Makkawy overall. Great video. I met Winston Roberts in 1983 and Mohamed Makkawy in 1985 so I’ve seen two people here in person.

I had coincidently read about this contest from Rick Wayne's Bodymen II book, prior to finding your excellent, informative video. The 'word from the street' during that time was that IFBB's new rules ripped off Robby Robinson. Because while there was no technical overall winner, Makkaway was proclaimed Mr Universe because he had the most points out of any competitor. Frank Zane, Ken Waller, and Robby himself felt that, had there been a posedown of the three weight class winners, Robby would've won

Great video. Well researched. I don't agree with weight classes personally. When you judge a physique it has to be by height class. Unfortunately the IFBB had aspirations for bodybuilding to become an Olympic sport. It was never going to happen. Its a case of not seeing the wood for the trees. I saw Makaway in the mid 80s. Really nice guy.
@03:57 Isn't that Mike Mentzer sitting at the table in picture 11?

Overall to Mohamed Makkawy imo, but we'd have to see comparisons with Robby.

Serge was banned because he started a competing league (WABBA). This is common knowledge
@retromuscle70523 жыл бұрын
Serge Nubret created the WABBA organization in response to being banned from the IFBB shortly after his final showing at the 1975 Olympia. Although it was founded in 1975, WABBA’s first major show didn’t take place until 1977 as Nubret was still actively competing in other organizations like NABBA and WBBG. According to an article written by Serge Nubret in the early 90’s, Nubret went on to explain that he was banned from the IFBB because of an explicit sex scene in a French film that he took part in. Those are his words, not mine. If you’re interested in reading the full article I’m referring to, go check my instagram (@retromusclemags) highlights in the Muscular Development section.

I doubt one could do porn movies today and still compete in the IFBB. Just my opinion.
