Hmmm, probably should open up the diff I switched out on my Spitfire. It had similar play so guess I’d best find out if the gears are destroyed!

Great video. Both my TR6 and my Alfa have too much play in the rear diff! Now I know what the cause is. Will the teeth finally break if I don't find new gears, or will they just continue to "Klunk" when I let off the clutch?

Hi Elin, just out of interest is there a way to partially drain the diff oil by undoing one of the shaft plates / seals for example ? Or the rear cover ? Obviously even a half-refresh of the oil will reduce wear and prolong component life ?

The drill and tap can be done on the diff in the car. Gets a little messy when you poke a hole, fluid will flow out. But helps to flush debris out at same time. Tap with grease to catch shavings, flush with a little lube...
