I knew Emanuel Jaques he lived about 5 minutes from me in Regent Park. At the time of his senseless murder Toronto was a safe city, safer than it is now...but it was changing fast. As kids we would walk from Regent Park to Yonge & Dundas. We had the Eaton Centre, record stores, and the head shops. Many parents allowed their kids 10, 11, and 12 year olds to ride the TTC. Most parents didn't accompany their kids on Halloween or walk their kids to school. Toronto lost it's innocence when Emanuel was murdered (July 1977). Within a 7 year span three young Torontonians would be brutally killed. Sharin Morningstar Keenan (1983) and Christine Jessop (1984). The loss of these 3 innocent lives was probably the toughest part of my childhood. "Toronto the Good"? Yes I still believe the overwhelming majority of people in this great city still care.

And then Nicole Morin disappeared in July of '85 and Alison Parrot was murdered in July of '86. I was a similar age and grew up in Toronto, too. I remember all of them -- Sharin', Christine, Nicole, Alison -- as if they were my sisters.

I was the same age as that boy in 77, and I remember my mom saying stay away from those places, it will destroy you in time, sadly it took a death for yonge street to be cleaned up in time, god bless the family, its terrible, a boy trying to make money for his family, doing the right thing.

I can say my mother never allowed me outside I wasn’t allowed sleepovers which I understand today being a mother of 6. But my mother a Jamaican born who came toronto in the mid 60,s loved this city the night life but when this poor boy god bless him was attacked and murdered her children suffered in the sense of we could never be free to be children. Honestly I never hear about this family hopefully his bother was able to have a somewhat normal life god bless

This makes me sick that it's changed around about the LGTB community and their safety. How about what it's done to generations of the family

Arguably the most infamous murder in Toronto history. The city was never the same again.

Remember people, it was never safe to let your kids roam. Those who got hurt where told to be quiet. I know a lot of those kids, but none of them where boys. The safety we thought we enjoyed in the 1970s was an illusion.

I remember this in 1977. I was 10 yrs old. Downtown in that year look like a dump with full of garbage of massage parlours everywhere. It was not safe for a child to be there. I don't understand why Emanuel parents let him go there to work as a shoeshine. I know he was with his bro but still danger was there. It was a sad tragic story of wat they did to this poor boy. These men are monsters. After when this happen poeple protest to change downtown and they shut these trashy bussiness down. Now downtown looks different and better. When l go downtown l feel like how it use to be back then and thinking of that poor kid. May he rest in peace. If it wasn't for him downtown well still be a dump probably it is now all the stores and reasturants are gone since the covic hit.

I had men try to lure me a few times as a kid. I can remember one time a guy came up to me and offered me $50 to come to his apartment so he can take some photos of me. I was less than 10 years old.

I thought he had 1 brother. The other guy was just a friend. I'm sure he blames himself everyday but he didnt realize the danger and was a kid himself. It wasn't uncommon to leave a 12 year old alone for a few minutes to watch over their stuff while older brother and friend go phone their respective parents for permission. I'm sure he told Emmanuelle to stay there and wait for him but they were unknowingly in the company of a monster. Also if the boys didn't have the insight to get their parents permission and just walked away with the monster, it would have been 3 deaths that day.
