The "comfort" cars "of the era" were ALL GREAT! They had the BEST RIDES and QUALITY DRIVETRAINS! I MISS THEM! We drive CRAP today!

my father ordered this model, same styling, silver on grey, loaded, with the 460. it was his company car, delivered in new bern, NC. i enjoyed that car as a teen - huge car, comfortable road trip boat. i miss it.

My father worked for Ford for 36 years and got a new lease car every year (more or less half price, all maintenance included). He got a navy blue Grand Marquis in 1979. It only had a 302 V8 but I was pleasantly surprised when I took it on a road trip and it got 24 mpg on the highway!

Parents first new car was a 1977 Mercury Colony Park Wagon with the 460 engine cid engine, many that thing was sweet though it probably only got 9 mpg but she cruised

As a kid born in 1965, I always admired Mercurys because they seemed to be the visiting-from-out of-town better-looking cousin to the Ford that lived down the street. You just did not see as many of them as Fords and they usually had different taillights and fancier trim. The Colony Parks were wonderful - upper middle class Americana at its finest. Best ones IMO were the '90-91s. In all honesty, to escape this $hit $how world we are living in right now, I mentally place myself in one of these cars and all the tension and frustration melts away.

The first car I ever owned. My parents had a ‘73 Mercury Marquis Brougham with the 460 engine. That was before catalytic converters so I never lost a drag race in the ‘73 (as late ‘70s / early ‘80s cars weren’t very powerful). I’m thinking of buying another of these cars. I bought the ‘77 in ‘87 and had it until the transmission died.

I had 3 of these awesome beauties and loved ever driven second of it. Love to have another if I can find one that's not a junker, fiberglass Freddy or a Bondo Betty. One of the very best cars that was ever made. All of mine were 2 doors and NO vinyl tops and 460s> the only way to high way haul.

This is a great-looking car. This would have appealed to the upper-middle class family that wanted something nicer than an LTD. Same demographic as for Buick, Oldsmobile, and Chrysler. I love these higher-end American sedans from that era that were not Cadillacs or Lincolns or Imperials.

Just wow..... When I was a kid, these Merc's were everywhere in my neighborhood along with all the land barges of that era.... So many of them found their resting place in the crusher of a scrapyard. But, they were all resurrected as Subaru's', Toyotas, toasters or some other small appliance made in Japan in the 1980's. So very sad.

In 2001, I "inherited" a NICE '78 Mercury Grand Marquis ("400", LOTS of options) just to keep it from being TOWED to impound! I invested $200 in it! I sold it, two weeks later, for $600! I WISH I WOULD HAVE KEPT IT!

Beautiful Mercury. I noticed it sounds like they aren't running resonators. I believe originally they did. My Mom's Lincoln didn't sound like that, but we would have liked if it did!

1975 and newer models had catalytic converters, so no need for resonators.

I'll take it. I went to buy a 77 Marquis yesterday. 351m, air shocks, cloth. really clean old car. I was letting warm up and rodent stench came rolling out. I was so disappointed. had to pass on it.

I give Ford credit; they had some nice looking cars in that era. I wouldn’t mind owning a Grand Marquis or a Town Car of that vintage.

These cars were so ridiculous it made them awesome. Battering Ram bumpers, massive 8.2 L big block engine, plush interior and luxury, badging everywhere, huge and heavy and handled poorly but rode so smooth. Probably got gallons to the mile in fuel economy

Didn't the Grand Marquis come with nicer stock hubcaps? Those seem like the units from the lower level Marquis or Marquis Brougham?

How many people in this world pull the fasten seat belts buzzer out of these cars? It's apparent my mother wasn't the only person who had it done.
