1978 Australian Wilkins Servis vintage washing machine.

This is a 1978 Wilkins Servis automatic non heat model 502. Based on a US Maytag design except it has a stainless steel inner tub and plastic outer tub. Recently replaced the pump so now it runs much quieter.

This machine is really cool. I can tell the maytag designs on it, but the differences make it truly unique. I love the stainless tub and chrome ring on the lint filter, as well as the optional extra rinse that even the TOL maytag helicals did not have. Very nice!!

This washer is so fascinating, love the dial and buttons! What amazes me is how these machines are still running even WAY after they've been discontinued. They're tanks compared to today's trash How do you find parts for them? I'm wondering is it worth spending over $1000 on a brand new Speed Queen today, seems vintage washers do just fine

I have luckily acquired a lot of spare parts to keep these going over the years, plus some Maytag parts are interchangable. I like Speed Queens but probably wouldn't spend the money on a brand new one, maybe a lightly used 2nd hand one.

Ah live this. The big knobs and buttons galore. Wilkins Servis and Simpson were like cousins, starting out similar but ending up on different paths. If Wilkins Servis stayed in business longer it would of been interesting to see how this design evolved.

Love the extra rinse *AND* Sud Save on this. Certainly not something we could get in an actual Maytag. So, my age old question…. Siphon suds return or pump?
