I just bought a gold one out of California with 32k miles. Any suggestions for what I need to do or look for when it shows up? Have you had to order any parts or get any work done?

@@notsilttocs congratulations, mine also has 32k miles. Ensure everything works of course. A couple things on mine don’t work. Driver’s seat power lumber support and dash lights which appears to be the headlight switch itself. I’m worried ti change it as I don’t want to crack anything on the dash facia etc. doesn’t appear to be an easy job. A\C needed refrigerant and is now super cold. I tuned it up and the 460 pulls real nice super smooth and effortlessly

I own this car now. It's in Australia. It's my 3rd gold Diamond Jubilee in 10 years and my 5th '77 - '79 Lincoln. Let's just say the video is slick. 3rd cylinder has 30% compression loss, so the car does shake. Getting that sorted. Miles to Empty gauge does not work. Also all tires were dry rotted so needed new tires. Front seat cloth very thin, worn and brittle. Have new old stock from SMS Auto Fabrics. Moonroof did not work. Plastic around the moonroof was broken. Had it all repaired. Brakes needed total replacement from front to back. Callipers needed replacing, hoses needed replacing. Pads were non existent. Dash lights did not work. Needed a new light switch and globes. Clock did not work. Had it replaced. Lesson learned is do not go by the slick video. None of the flaws are mentioned by the super slick sales guy. Buyer beware. BTW, I didn't buy this car from Gateway and pay their $35,000 asking price. After Gateway it went to Mecum Auctions where I paid $22,000 - a much fairer price given what was not disclosed by Gateway.

Yah, but, do you have the Cartier Gold 1978 Jubilee watches? My grandparents were Ford dealers and recieved the watches. I just put them on my channel.

@@xrmerkur No, they were good looking cars though. In Canada, you were really on your own for parts. That's why I had so many. Two ended up as parts cars, but that saved lots of money. Cheers 🍻

@@xrmerkur I used a lot of after market race parts for the 2.3... Esslinger stuff. And fabricated other parts. In many ways, it was actually very practical and cheap. So many got abandoned by Ford and owners. The Cosworth Sierra kits were pretty cool too!

Very classy video itself, the Diamond J shows the best in taste, would have been nice on black as well. Surprised by the noise it made though! My Mark IV had 2 resonators, 2 mufflers and the cats... Plus a silencer off the air filter. Mmmm... 🤔

@@paulzanetti7565 It will be happy in Australia. It really is a nice edition. Consider switching out the motor and tranny in one shot. These cars are capable of stunning performance. If you repair one defect at a time, you'll go broke and crazy. You can always save the original stuff for a "purist", both the C-6 and the 385 series motor combined with a "good" 9 inch diff will later forever, even in heavily modified trim. As big as your Mark V is, Ford lightened it almost 700 lbs over the Mark IV. Cheers 🍻

Til this very day, the MOST BEAUTIFUL MARK to d8. I might be a bit prejudice bc I had 1 in '78. No designer series too much $$$$. But, moonroof, velour seats, charcoal grey metallic. VOGUE tyres & oem chrome wheels. Beautiful, but, thirsty. Miles to empty always scared me on long trips. Mobile living room. A trunk the size of a Manhattan studio. Miss it . Also, I can't see a full console whereby eliminating a passenger seat These babies were made for 6 passengers. Sometimes 7 in a pinch & short ride.

Since 1978 I have scratched my a head at the choice of interior fabric, one of the UGLIEST materials I have ever seen, akin to air filter foam. Given the gorgeous leather and velour seating options for the other models of Mark V and Lincoln Continental (look at the Bill Blass leather for 1979 or the Versailles velour for the 1976 Mark IV) who is the idiot at Ford who selected this crap? It killed the car for me and looked even worse in blue!
