This is terrific! Thanks so much for posting! My grandfather and I were at this race and I still have the program. I was 18 then and I am 53 now. My grandfather passed away in 1983. He loved going to the trotters and often went to Yonkers Raceway since he lived in Washington Heights. I lived on Long Island so I would go to Roosevelt. My grandfather, who I loved, sparked a lifelong interest in the horses and my mother, who is now 82, used to encourage it by betting with me at OTB!

Terrific post!! I was there (18 yo now 55) with my grandfather. I think I bet Kash Minbar who, I thought, was undefeated coming into the race, but finished out of the money (as you can see nobody was going to beat Cold Comfort that night). Peter Haughton was one of the greatest drivers in trotting history. Also loved announcers Stan Bernstein and Spenser Ross and the great Jack Lee with the call. Great memories!!

Gleason P.L. Yes Same here, I was a teenager as well at the time..Kash Minbar was a New York bred trotter and he was a regular in the NY circuit, and usually in the money (if not a win)!!..I hate to say outclassed here as Cold Comfort was a grand Circuit winner and great sire after racing, and also a strong Petite Evander..but Kash was a favorite of alot of people back in the day.

spikeri812 Land for cash deal..with late senator Al Damato, front and center..closing Roosevelt really hurt..We loved going to the Nathan's for hotdogs after the racing..Sadly..it was Yonkers that was hurting, not Roosevelt. But the land became to valuable.. too much money too much politics it's sat for a bit could you imagine all the racino/ casinos, now- how that would have done in Long Island, it would have been a gold mine

Green Speed scratched sick the week before in the ATC and thus did not go in this Intl.

Hey Caesar, how are you, Cold Comfort, what a trotter, I was at the Meadowlands on a Saturday afternoon I think, and like a dumbass when I was so young, I bet a large exacta for $490.00 Green Speed/ Cold Comfort and only 10.00 the other way. Well Ed Loenmeyer sat behind Billy Haughton the whole mile, tipped and beat Green Speed. From then on Cold Comfort and Jurgey Hanover were linked ever Monday at the Big M, I never missed a race, I think SuMacLad Series, and a friend and I enjoyed getting our$$ back, the entry never paid less than $4.20, that always amazed us.

@@williamfluck148 true, and they ran uncoupled and cold comfort was a bomb and green speed was usually 1-5
