Nice job. Pretty much the same procedure i use. I have now moved up to using a palm sander to remove the crusty plastic with great results and considerably less effort.

Always rinse off thoroughly after each level of grit otherwise you will just start scratching the next finer sanded surface as you go. Change your water and wash your hands too!
