I am so jealous of that level of rust free on that truck. My wifes four year old van already needs new e-brake cables, and the hood has rust bubbles on the leading edge where rocks have hit it! Also, love this truck - the first vehicles I had were all fords ranging in age from 77-84. And I've had just enough body work experience to know how impressive that metal repair is.
@AustinCoulson4 жыл бұрын
I do kinda feel bad sometimes showing how rust free everything is, but the day I filmed that it was 108 degrees and we still had a week left before June, so I think there's a give and take to stuff like that. Now, if we had San Diego weather along with Phx cost of living and rust free vehicles, then I would fully expect death threats. Appreciate the props in the metal work, I put a lot time doing that the hard way hoping people like you with body experience would appreciate it.

Merch is a tricky thing. I help manage our apparel at my day job as a graphic designer. It’s easier to ship and manage inventory for items that sizing isn’t a concern. Hats, key tags, garage flags, etc. Shirts with all the sizing concerns are tricky. You get better pricing as qty goes up but then you get stuck sitting on inventory that is hard to move in odd sizes or designs that didn’t sell well. Using a “preorder” style helps gauge interest and sizing before placing orders. I manage a teespring account which is nice so a customer can buy the exact item they want but working with a local screen printing or embroidery shop is a lot more rewarding and generally higher quality. Good luck!

man that looks like a lot of work, I'd grab yourself an electric stud welder with a puller hammer they cost like two hundred bucks, Canadian. There pretty cheap or just go to the wreakers and cut a section out of another truck and simply butt joint weld it back in. I find that would be much faster process! in the end the little electric stud welder puller hammer kit is the best route to go and it will save you massive amount of time and money. They are really worth it. Although I am enjoying watching your method of process in this repair. btw Love these older F series Trucks there my favorites of the fords over the years. @ShainAndrews4 жыл бұрын
@@AustinCoulson If we open the rabbit hole that is body and paint you will need two more tool box's just for those gadgets, and another shop to accommodate a proper paint booth. I swear if you ever hold a Martin dolly in your hand while blind folded you will know it is a thing of beauty. Same with their hammers. A good pull tab, wiggle wire, or spot pull system is a real game changer as well. That dent could have been restored externally utilizing those technologies. Those technologies take a healthy investment for something that is not your core business. I'd keep an eye out on Craigslist etc for deals though.

I am getting a f150 4.6l 4x4 with plow for $200. Rusty. Not sure what it needs. Truck located an hour away. I tried to get it started. Got a little fire. Junkyards had many. None removed. So... got the old starter working. Issue: it was so rusty that the scale was touching the main wire and arcing out. Cleaned it up. Bench tested. Good. But.. just now (no joke) the phone rang. The junkyard said my starter was ready. Oh well. Only $30.

That dent repair has me thinking, what if you put two box section pieces together like scissors so they pivet in the middle . And on the closest arm to you , weld a nut on the end, and the other arm at the end weld a plate, then thread a bolt through so the end would push out the dent in a controlled manner.
@AustinCoulson4 жыл бұрын
You know, I think i could make that design work. The only issue I see is that it seems that because the initial dent was a violent action, it often requires a somewhat violent action to counter it (abrupt push or hammer strike) If it moves too slow it would risk bending the steel gently instead of popping it out

Just found your videos. They are great. I am a tad disappointed with the option to go with a 460. The 400 CID heads are good heads and not the reason for detonation. The 400 pistons are .060 to .080 inches in the hole and that is the main cause of detonation. A simple $500 set of pistons would fix that and bring compression up to 9.5 to 1. With the 4 inch stroke, good quench, and higher compression that 400 would have stomped the EFI headed 460 in low rpm torque. Simply because the 400 has a 4 inch stroke and the 460s stroke is only 3.85 inches. Have not seen all the vids yet but it will be interesting to see how you deal with the 460 efi heads as the non efi 460 intakes will not fit.
@AustinCoulson3 жыл бұрын
You aren't wrong, but it came down to costs. The machine shop offered what you are suggesting, but the cost of a used 460 was a lot less than rebuilding the 400 with new pistons as described. I let the owner decide and the used 460 was his choice. Price motorsports is the name of the company that makes an adapter to let me use the EFI 460 with a Holley Sniper TBI

Love your work. You have a chop saw, NOT a cold cut saw. Generally a cold cut saw is an 18" over sized powered hack saw. It is a real pain to process a bunch of small orders, then ship them. Don't forget trouble resolution, like a wrong size, color, quality. I'd settle for a section of hot wheels track with your kids artwork on it.

@@AustinCoulson I say do your best to keep things authentic to who you are. You know when it feels right and can sleep at night knowing you are following your own path. Personally I'm quickly realizing I'm a guy of simplicity. I tend to think many logos and "merch" are too busy. Probably because I grew up seeing Boeing (a company that pisses me off now) Lockheed Martin (Skunk Works is a favorite), Ford (especially the cursive) , GM, HP, IBM, Rat Fink. The last "merch" i purchased was probably 2015 or 16 from Essential Craftsmen. His logo was tolerable, and understated on the shirts. The shirts were high quality, and I would love to tell you the manufacture but I suffer from the same affliction as you and cut ever tag off upon delivery. I know stickers are a big thing as well. Lol the t-shirt idea is great. I'd buy a "Sucker"-t all day hahaha. I stumbled across this channel thanks to that "Trophy Truck", youtoops kept recommending it for like 2 weeks! But I watch a bunch of wrenching videos anywho, so the bots figured I'd enjoy. They were right! If t-shirts don't work, how about mugs or a thermos? That'd be neato too.

I've got a 64 bug that I need to do some body work on, having never done that before any tips?

You had to throw in the dig about us poor folks in the rust belt! My 2014 Ram has more rust than this truck. I miss Arizona for that reason. Now it's back to torching out bolts. Snapping bolts. Soaking bolts for weeks ahead of a job just to hope they don't break. So glad to see the channel taking off. I wrote a comment a ways back when you had a couple thousand subscribers stating that it was nice to get a reply but that it was only a matter of time before your channel blew up due to the quality of your work. You'll have 100k subscribers a year from now. There always seems to be a watershed moment when great channels like this start to get exponential growth. Congrats. You really do deserve it.

You're right, that second shot of the inside of those body mount cups was cruel, I've just never seen one so clean, even from an AZ truck. I remember that comment, I try to stay on top of them as I learn more than I expected from them, and comments like this keep me motivated when I am editing videos until 2am questioning my life choices...

Oh my god my wife thinks I’m nuts because I do this. I have sensitive skin and tags really mess with me and make me itch I can’t touch Certain fabrics especially with dry skin. It feels like scratching a chalkboard with my nails. I do some concrete work and if I use bare hands I can’t touch anything for days. Anyway great video. Keep it up bruh you are killing it.

I'm going to show my wife this to prove that either I am not crazy or at least that I'm in good company...
