Affirmed...fell I love with him as a child and he's still my favorite today. Always meant to go see him, but didn't get to before he died. One beautiful horse.

My favorite...rode my old ten speed 40 miles round trip to see him win the 78 Jim Dandy over Sensitive Prince. Had a flat enroute too. Saw him from a distance at Spendthrift in 1984 but never again. Cried like a baby when he passed on. Loved that colt.

I just love Affirmed. He was so athletic. I think Secretariat, at his best, is the best American racehorse ever, but Seattle Slew and Affirmed (and many others like Dr. Fager, Spectacular Bid) are nor far behind. And Exceller…...sigh.

Laffit Pincay rode Affirmed! I spoke with him a couple of months ago and he said Affirmed was the best horse he ever rode.

@kcaputo007 Here 'Exceller," -- famed for besting Seattle Slew (while Affirmed's saddle was slipping) in their Jockey Club Gold Cup, and "who was closing strongly" (quoting Dave Johnson) -- finishes some 8 lengths back of Affirmed.
