1979 Vauxhall Viva HC - A quick project - Part 1

Lovely little car and so simple to sort. Its also nice to see it still has the original Desmo door mirror. These need serviced to stop the inside spring breaking. Just remove it from the foor and remove the old grease inside and fill it back up with grease - as simple as that.

I'm amazed the grille and bumper are still mint after whatever happened. The paint looks lovely. You need to get a good match.

In my opinion the HC Viva was far better looking than the mk 2 Escort. This is a lovely example, great to know it will be back on the road soon.

To be honest I know nothing about them, I usually stick BL, Rover/Jaguar etc but I have to say so far I'm really impressed. It's a lovely car.

They are rare cars specifically in that condition, can be surprisingly hard to get parts for considering how common they where.

That's in amazing condition for its age. It's probably been kept in a warm, dry garage its whole life, and Ziebart's nothing to do with it. I say this because I once had an Avenger that had been Ziebarted when new, and it was completely rotten. It was even rusty around the yellow plastic plugs with the Ziebart name on them.

My Driving Instructor had one of these, same colour and same year. This looks to be a Coventry Registration, so could even be the same car. I only had two lessons b fore taking my test in my own car, so didn't get to drive the Viva much.

I'd say so. 45 years old, MOT and tax exempt, a decent following in the classic community built in the 70s... you can't get much more classic than that.
