So dope. I wonder why he changed his vocal style from a midrange to a lower growl. I'm guessing it has something to do with them switching from 6 string guitars to 7 string?

He explains it in the interview they just did with Chris Garza. The vocal style he did earlier on was based on his icons he grew up with. But the deeper vocal is more natural for him to do, hence the change.
