The Chevrolet Monte Carlo is a two-door coupe that was manufactured and marketed by the Chevrolet division of General Motors. Deriving its name from the city in Monaco, the Monte Carlo was marketed as the first personal luxury car of the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1970 model year, the model line was produced across six generations through the 2007 model year, with a hiatus from 1989-1994. The Monte Carlo was a closely aligned variant of the Pontiac Grand Prix through its entire production.
From 1970 until 1972, the Monte Carlo rode on the unique "A-Special" platform with the Grand Prix, shifting to the standard A-body intermediate chassis for 1973-1977. For 1978, the model line underwent extensive downsizing but was still considered a midsized coupe. The rear-wheel drive A-body platform underpinning this generation of Monte Carlo was redesignated as the G-body when GM's front-wheel drive A-body cars were introduced for 1982. After an abbreviated 1988 model year, the Monte Carlo was replaced by the two-door Chevrolet Lumina.
For the 1995 model year, the Monte Carlo was revived, replacing the two-door Lumina. Sharing the front-wheel drive W-platform with the two-door Grand Prix, the Monte Carlo was again slotted above the Camaro as the largest Chevrolet coupe. Following the discontinuation of the four-door Lumina in 2000, the Chevrolet Impala became the four-door equivalent of the Monte Carlo.
During much of its production, the Monte Carlo represented the Chevrolet brand in stock car racing. During the 1980s, the Monte Carlo SS was introduced, featuring aerodynamically-enhanced styling; as part of its revival, the Monte Carlo again represented Chevrolet in stock car racing from 1995 through its discontinuation.
For 1980, the car received a mild frontal restyle, with quad headlights and turn indicators mounted beneath.[23] The metric 200 3-speed automatic transmission became standard on all models and a new Chevrolet-built 229 CID V6 with 2-barrel Rochester carburetor replaced both the 200 CID V6 of 1979 and the Buick engine offered on all 1978 models and the 1979 Landau as the standard engine in 49 states (California cars continued to use the Buick engine). A new option for 1980 was Buick's turbocharged version of the 231 CID V6 rated at 170 hp (130 kW). Other optional engines included 267 and 305 CID versions of the Chevrolet small-block V8 with up to 155 hp (116 kW). The front headroom was 37.6 inches, while rear headroom was 37.8 inches.[23] A power trunk opener was still optional.[23] There were a total of 13,839 turbo Monte Carlo's for 1980. A new five-slot, 14-inch rally wheel option was introduced (the slots having squared ends and a pointed edge), this was later shared with subsequent Chevrolet/GMC A/G-bodies and the Chevrolet S10 light-duty truck.

I’ve been hoping you’d build this! You did a great job! I built this model back in the 80s when it first came out but mine was a lighter blue like a LeMans blue. I was a teenager back then. I don’t know what happened to that model. I’m going to sound nit picky but this model is slightly inaccurate. MPC didn’t notch the fender corner at the front where the turn signals are located like in the real car. I used a hobby knife back then to whittle a little bit of plastic away before I painted it. Anyway, I am so happy that this is back! I’d love to see a return of the 67-70 Eldorado model kits, even the Toronados, too!

I really feel sorry for you, if it was an ‘86 or ‘87 with the inter cooler and in decent condition those are worth $40-60k today. My Mom had her 1985 Regal Limited stolen TWICE!! First time in ‘86, it had about 9,000 miles on it, and it was found 2 weeks later in repairable condition. The second time in 1988. Never found. Insurance wrote it off after 30 days. Problem with all 1979-87 G-Bodies is that they were very easy to steal and among the most stolen vehicles in American automobile history. Because so many components were interchangeable between the cars in every division and they were simple to work on and disassemble/reassemble.

Was in the Army until July of '80 built 3 kits while I was in and this was one of them it was released as Wheeler Dealer or something like that painted it like the box art I still have it. My mom had a '79 Monte Carlo (bought it new) it was white with light blue pinstripes and blue interior, same color you used on your build. My younger brother was still in high school he was a hellion back then. He used to take that car and go cruise'n on Broadway Ave in our town and get some beer and chick's until one day when he rear-ended somebody so hard it totaled that car. It was only a little over a year old.

I built this as an exact replica of my '79. All I had to do was swap the headlights with a '79 promo and scrape off the marker lights. I have to agree that it is not the most beautiful car, and I never would have bought one brand new. I looked at some at the dealer and was not impressed. In 1989 I got one for free because it didn't run. I rebuilt the 267 V8 and have been driving it ever since. With American Torq Thrust wheels, the looks have grown on me. Obviously at 44 years old it stands out, but so does my '88 LS and '67 Chevelle. I have built exact replicas of them also.

Really good build and kit. The French on those boxes is always funny. So, in French, a Chopper, as in the motorcycle isn't translated. It will stay a Chopper. HOWEVER, since R2's translation team or person use Google Translate, they don't know that and they used the word "Hachoir" which is actually the proper name of the knife. Ended up being a joke between a couple of us French speaking modelists that this motorcycle was for men who wanted a quick vasectomy! lol I also noticed from your vid that they used the word "ordinaire" (ordinary) to translate stock, when the proper translation would be "de série" or "non modifiée" and they used the word "coustume" which is an old French word refering to the word costume (word means same in both French and English) but in the feminine tense (if this can make sense, you guys don't give genres to objects as you have the word "it" for them, which is something we don't have in French.)

Gray primer generally allows a color to remain genuine, whereas brown primer makes the color appear darker. Black primer for metallics (makes them pop), and white primer for yellow, pink, and all neon colors (it brightens them).
