I was at Roosevelt, 11 October 1980, and saw the greatest standardbred I ever witnessed race-NIATROSS. #4C won by 1-2 lengths at 1:59.1 on a good track. Niatross not only won the Messenger that crowded Roosevelt night, he won the Triple Crown that night also. The greatest race with the largest crowd I’ve ever seen. Does that tell you how good Niatross was? 1980 it’s now 2020 and you do not see a crowd cheering as they did on a rainy October night. 🐴💕❤️

I was at this race as well as the Cane Pace over at Yonkers earlier that year. Then...A few years later, we were treated to the exploits of his son, Nihilator.

Thank you for posting this video. I especially appreciated the slow motion at the end of the race so you could study the movements of Niatross in action. Wonderful to see.

I saw Silent Majority early in his 3 year old season. Kind of a cranky little horse, but very quick.

What was not well known outside of the racing fraternity was that CAMMIE Haughton was actually responsible for getting TT to the races and prepping him for the old man to go on the GC with him...he was rather willful, and could have been junked in many other stables...

How right you are.Niatross was a beaten horse that day.No if and or buts. And by the way Niatross was great, but his daddy was better.

Let me point out something to you KNOW IT ALLS that state that NIATROSS was a less than great stud..1)He stood for the highest fee in the history of the sport for more years than any sire of the modern era..(more than Bret,Albatross,Nevele Pride, MHF)..2)his book was full and closed for more consecutive years than any other stallion, and considering that before, Al, Bret, NP, MHF had no limits on their bookings outside the syndicate, Niatross' numbers are more than adequate..He made it possible for the BYE BYE BYRD maternal line to stay viable, which was important at that time..However, he will never be known as a sire of sires, something that Albatross and MS did with alacrity..

I really think you should apply for a job on TVN/TVB racing, you could be the modern day Stan Bergstein..maybe even call a few races and give commentary and back barn- stories.

brianjschumer Those are the kindest words you have had to say about me in the last 2 years, but I'm having too much fun racing at Northfield to give it up...BTW...i have called races at more than a few tracks in the last 30 years, but being on the other side of the fence is more fun...

Delta Daniel B class drivers dont wind up with horses like Cam Fella, you idiot..Pat was a very good TR/DR in the Detroit, Windsor, and Chicago markets for 20 years..He was always a good driver, and he showed how good he was WHEN he got Cam, then Justin Passing and Ludell Hanover...Holy Crap...

I guess Nialator was a bust, I still say, Niatross was a monster, and Nialator was right there, I watched them in person, video can't replicate that, and I think that Nialator"s first race of his life Meadowlands was almost unbelievable, I was there, up in Pegasus with a perspective as they came off the last turn, and I swear, I have been to and witnessed many a great race, Nialator looking like he is coming so wide that he's near the public's fence, big field of 2 yr. olds, and once Bill Haughton had a clear lane, be it like to 6 or 7 wide, he tapped that horse, and I swear dust kicked up from under him, so I guess Niatross had 1 good off spring!

William Fluck Also, Barberry Spur was no slacker either. We’d have to go to his daughters for some outstanding broodmares it didn’t matter who that sire was. They did ok as well. 💕🐴
