I remember the old original smaller carry out KFC restaurant in my city. The chicken was good there, but i swear the taste went downhill when the restaurant moved to a brand new building with a dining area a few blocks away.

The weird thing is I remember this commercial as a kid. so it has to be around 1986-1987 btw I was like 3 years old.....!
@gleuszler9 жыл бұрын
Back in 1980, if you asked for a piece of white meat, the cashier will ask, "Do you want a wing, a rib, or a keel?" You ask, "What's the difference between a rib and a keel?" Cashier: "Well, the rib is the bony part of the breast while the keel is the meaty part of the breast." You say, "Well, I want the keel!" Yes, up until about 1995 the breast was cut into three pieces: two ribs and one keel, rather than the standard two "breasts" (actually, two halves of the breast) that all of its competitors (Roy Rogers, Popeye's, Church's, etc.) were offering.

Yup! I remember when KFC was "Kentucky Fried Chicken" Wow! Those prices have almost tripled by now! 10 bucks for a 15 piece...Now, it's almost 30 bucks...26 bucks JUST FOR THE CHICKEN. I remember KFC in the early 80's had a limited run in selling BBQ Riblets, but pork was too expensive so KFC stopped selling them.

I don't remember pioneer chicken..... My Aunt had friends who sold friers to KFC....was told they used choice birds, (at that time, anyhow). Only bad thing is it's fried, which we all know means it's a treat, not daily food. The coating/skin is fatty, salty. Great fries there Elmira, Ontario location was #1 for quality, a few years running. Used to eat there weekly. A It was the 1st fast food I ever ate. at 3 yrs old. A+W' Chubby chicken is similar Nowadays, its Swiss Chalet!! yumm yumm :p

@WAIATA4U16 жыл бұрын
In the 1970's and 80's, KFC was about quality with the food...Prices were moderate. Honestly, the prices were waaaaay below than what it is now. Personally, I'd rather have Church's chicken (in Texas) or Pete's Chick-N-More. If you're going to spend $10 on chicken, then just go to Golden Corral Buffet, and consume all the fried chicken you want...The chicken is so-so, but at least you get your money's worth.
@madrox4218 жыл бұрын
oh man i have not had KFC in so long...im totally jonesing now...
@WAIATA4U15 жыл бұрын
KFC is greasy, salty and the chicken is moist to the point of falling apart when picked up. Church's chicken has gone through a renovation over the past 6 years or so. Of course you wouldn't know of Pete's Chicken unless you were from San Antonio Texas...It's pretty good you ough to give it a try when in San Antonio.

@sasprawler I'm going to guess this commercial was made around 1987 or so...$9 would be the equivalent of paying roughly $17.50 in today's money. Not much of a deal considering that you can buy a bucket of chicken for $10 on a Sunday today.

@Rlowe928 I know. It started getting bad ever since they began calling themselves "KFC" by name. My guess is, the name shortening was part of a push to cut back on expenses and be more "hip". Back in the 80's the chicken was cooked to perfection, but now it's just over-fried and tastes like it's been under the lamp for days. They don't give a damn anymore. However, I must say the grilled chicken is usually really good especially since they started only cooking it to order in most shops.

I used to love Kentucky Fried Chicken, when I was little. We didn't get it often, mind you, but when we did, it was considered a special treat. One weird thing I still remember about the store near my dad's house, is that when I was a kid, inside the salad-bar, there was some sort of a "bouncy-ball," going back and forth. Sounds really stupid, I know, but it was there. Never figured out why it was there, and I still don't know, to this day. Can't eat KFC now. Gives me an upset stomach. : (

@noral05 Oh no it's not. There's meal deals that cost $19.99 and you don't get nearly as much chicken as you used to back then. If you could get 15 piece of chicken at $9.29 today, KFC wouldn't even know how to keep up with the demand.

@sasprawler - Not in my experience. As I said, Popeye's chicken is bigger, more fresh, more hot, and more crispy, which is how I like it. They want to keep their customers satisfied. If you're the kind of person that loves KFC, then Popeye's will simply convert you because they're even better. I would suggest trying both again under similar circumstances. One day have KFC for lunch, then the next day have Popeye's.
