1981. Honda CB250N (B). Superdream. How I changed the front forks oil.

Honda CB250 N. Superdream.
I needed to do this job so thought I'd video it just in case someone might find it useful. I used 20/50 oil, which I've done before on my CB250K4, but on this occasion it made the forks too stiff.
I've since replaced it with the recommended ATF oil, which is better. I might try some 10/40 in the future as I do like a little firmer suspension on the front.

Good guide, my first superdream back in 1983 had 20/50 in the forks, now I use a 50/50 mix of 10w&15w fork oil. The collar (inner bolt) is 14mm hex (M10 Honda bolt head can work), I normally turn it in till it stops, then back it out a few turns, so the end of the chrome 27mm a/f, cap bolt, bears on the lower collar and takes the spring load. I don't tend to use the metal spanner directly on the cap bolts, always a plastic drive or sheet, to avoid chrome damage and later corrosion. Enjoyed you video...

Thank you John. Your extra info here will help anyone that's going to be doing the job. If I remember correctly, 20/50 worked well in my CB250K4, but was to heavy for this one. I'm just about to do the same job on my current Royal Enfield Bullet so may video that too. Thank you for watching. 🙂

I wasn't sure if the tank was right for it as someone said it looked like a CB250RS one. It is a bit similar to my friends RS but is a little different. Hope it brought back some memories for you. Thank you for your comment.

Thank you Leslie. I do try to explain things so that anyone that feels a bit uncomfortable with maintenance can see what to expect if they tackle the job themselves. I think yours is a de-luxe with the seat tail. I sold mine to a friend as he passed his test on an identical one. I've moved on to a 2015 Royal Enfield Bullet......😊

It'd be typical me to follow all these instructions to the letter, do an immaculate, careful job then take the bike out for a celebration ride then suddenly oh shit! Forget to replace the drain plugs.

Hello. Thank you for watching and your comment. According to my manual, the early models take 140cc (in each leg), and this model (CB250NB) and later take 190cc. Hope this helps. Thank you again. 👍
