The very best of the best at every position! Classic template of High Tenor, Low Bass, Powerful Lead, and Rock solid Baritone! Seamless harmonies along with sincerity, and anointing is a combination that may never duplicated. I remember going to a concert in my early teenage years with my family and was amazed and moved by everything that I saw! I close my eyes and I am transported to a wonderful place and time! I see why they were voted the nations top quartet. They could win it today!

You are right; this was a power lineup. I went to a Kingsmen concert sometimes in the early 80s and all these guys were there + Mark Trammell who was playing bass. Talk about a deep lineup!! They moved Mark in at lead and baritone switching him with Wayne Maynard and Jim Hamill- it was like the 1986 Boston Celtics or something. Talent at every position,

The church is missing this old time music, I am dying to hear it. All I have left are some old cassettes.

+James Barber Jim Hamill told the story about how one of the early albums, perhaps Big and Live, i can't remember, the record company was very unhappy with, and told Eldridge Fox it needed to be heavily edited or rerecorded because it sounded more like a camp-meeting revival than a professional recording with all the big endings and amens and such, but Foxey held his ground and refused any changes which Hamill felt meant not compromising the Kingsmen's style or their message and that the groups success was attributed the the Lord rewarding that decision. there is no shortage of great guys and believers today in SGM but do I ever miss Jim Hamill!

I will second that. I believe that is possibly the best live gospel album ever recorded. The Kingsmen were at the top of the pile during this period.

I was at their live recorded concert in Mt Vernon IL, but it was not in 1981. My sister in law and I were in the 5th row of the MVHS auditorium , just on the north side of the middle. Our friend Cy Lowery hosted the Gospel Sings there in those years. I was no longer married to her brother after 1980, therefore would not have been there with his sister in 1981. I know it was the mid-1970's but cannot remember the year. The concert was great, and I also remember Parker Jonathan (their "Indian boy") being there and singing lead. Anthony Burger went on to play for the Gaither Homecoming sessions until his death from a heart attack on one of their Homecoming cruises. He won so many awards they finally called it the Anthony Burger Award. Several of the other Kingsmen went on to do very well too. This was and still is a great group. The last time I saw them in person was at Bean Blossom Indiana around 2014. I have the Mt Vernon concert but on VHS, didn't make CDs back then. :)

With all due respect, you are mistaken. This was recorded in 1981 in Mt. Vernon, IL. Parker came along near 1990. The “Indian” on this album (as Jim references him) was Wayne Maynard.

Thank you r52003 for sending me that link! Would you please do the same for Live Naturally, Live at the University of Alabama and Big and Live. It would mean a lot if you would, thanks!

where are the talking parts?! that's part of the concert! Thanks but....I think that's a problem in the Church today. All music no message. I appreciate that you uploaded this album because mine is dead and gone. But major disappointment in the editting.

What talk is missing, I still have the original cassette tape i bought in 1986, well worn, and I found it here. Listing to this I hear the same talk and jokes and songs, curious what is missing here? This is part 1 of a 2 record set.

@@ejdiii333 For one example, Hamill introduces Wayne Maynard before "I'm Nearing the Shore" on the original album. Here it edits that talking about and goes straight from "I'll Drop My Anchor" to "Nearing the Shore" I haven't listened to all of it here- but I've already noticed that part is missing.

Gospel groups lost popularity when they done away with live bands and went to recorded music !
